  • That was both unsolicited and an idiotic generalisation. That would be like someone saying that people in the UK are a bunch of thieves, based on Nick Leeson and the Barings bank fiasco - a stupid conclusion, and needless to say, factually incorrect.

While I do agree that everyone is entitled to his opinion (and frankly I don't rate the customer service at ICICI very highly either), one surely must exercise discretion while airing such generalisations in a public forum.
    Walletwatch,
    Frustration overshoot.
Agree that above statement is slightly over the top.
I had dealt with government departments in India and had some really bad experiences directly relating to the main subject which is "inefficiency".
Pathetic is the word comes into mind.
Like you say One must exercise discretion while airing such generalisation in a public forum but the fact still remains the same. :D

Agreed - fact remains that ICICI, in the experience of most of us are an inefficient lot - my objection was to you generalising it as a way of life among all Indians, which as I said before, is a stupid conclusion.

  • I merrily signed up for A HiSave account and, other than it taking ages, had no problems.... until now.

Three weeks ago I tried to transfer money from a linked account into my HiSave account. £200 was duly debited from my linked account BUT (and here's the big but)... the reference given on my bank statement was not "DD Neil Davidson" as was the case with all previous transfers, but SOMEONE ELSE'S NAME and "**FIRST PAYMENT**". Three weeks have passed and no £200 has appeared in my HiSave account!

So, as you can imagine, I'm worried that someone else has got my money!

My question is - if this is indeed what has happened - what codes/laws etc. are ICICI breaking (would this be a breach of the Direct Debit guarantee and/or Data Protection laws?). All emails have so far gone unanswered apart from an automated reply.

    Thanks,

    Neil

I would think you have a case for a refund from your bank under the direct debit guarantee. I am fed up with ICICI's dd system, which is why I now make payments into my account by BACS.

I'm going to be lazy now and admit I have not read ALL the previous posts BUT has ANYBODY made this account work and got the returns they advertise?

Yes. No problems at all; money in, money out, interest paid. All fine.

My first major transfer from my linked current account (initiated via current account) worked without a hitch. Money arrived exactly on expected day. Touch wood, either I am one of the lucky ones who have not encountered any probs, or ICICI have got their act together now.

More likely you are one of the sensible ones - all the problems that have been posted so far concern direct debit payments. I think the key to a satisfying experience with ICICI is to minimise their involvement in managing your transactions. ;)

Well I guess that covers me aswell, as so far so good and they even reply to my messages sent via the account message system. Just out of interest, the money "arrives" in my ICICI the day before it leaves my linked (Barclays) so I'm effectively getting a day's extra interest. Not complaining but cant see how they can keep this up; fear a big rate drop looming before Christmas
  • Progress??

Today I got an account access number for both myself and my good lady (separate e-mails) - account is up and running - BUT no password - await with interest (no pun intended) tomorrow's developments.

Well now Monday evening (3 days later)- no further contact from them and still no password!

    GoG

That's normal for dd payments, the main reason being the transfers are being delayed because of ICICI sending the wrong payment codes in the dd requests. A days extra interest is nice, but you have a long way to go to beat my 40+ days free interest on my nonexistent dd payment for £500. :p
BTW, I think a rate drop has already been alluded to.

I wouldn't worry just yet. Mine took the best part of two weeks after the account info arrived by e-mail.
