I was asked at Halifax and Alliance but they gave more options for the authentication.

seagles wrote:Well as I hadn't heard from them for a while. Last contact e-mail saying will mail me in 2 days and that was 16th. Sent a chaser. Got e-mail back saying that as per FSA regulations they couldn't verify my identity and to send passport, driving licence, utility bill or bank statement, authorised as genuine by my banker or solicitor. What a load of bilge water.
I work in the industry and know that a standard credit search will give them more than enough information. I wouldn't mind providing some form of identity to open the account but to get it certified as authentic by my banker or solicitor costs money?
Anyone know a way round this request for me to go to my bnaker or solicitor?
If not will give up
Not sure, I got mine certified by an Accountant, but was then told this wasn't sufficient, as a banker or solicitor is more qualified...!!!

I found the following on the Internet. It's what the N Yorks Police use as verification for an applicant and seems fairly reasonable and well thought out. This kind of stuff would be more than adequate to obtain an account with a stockbroker. I suppose you could suggest it to ICICI?

Thought I would join the crowd .Account verified as opened 2/8/05, await password?
Password arrived 15/8/05 logged on only to be told via pop up account needs to be registered.
As most of the people here have allready stated "someone would be in touch". No call!
E-mailed, received a reply phone such and such.
No one available. Thankfully I did not deposit any great sum as others in this thread have done. Will keep reading to learn from your experiences but thanks for the information you have all passed on0 -
Tony,
Quicky - same thing happened to me when I tried to log on. Try typing your acc number etc - don't copy & paste from your email. Worked for me.
Also emailed be4 I tried this - about a week later got a call from a nice lady, gave her direct London number, "any further probs come back to me, leave message if I'm not available" etc.0 -
OK update, received email yesterday to say I'm approved and with application tracking number, within the 48 hours as promised. So today am sending a cheque (just for £1 to start with) along with the R85 form to get gross rate interest. No probs yet but still early days0

Finaly got password via courier! today. Guess what? When I try and log in `User has not been registered yet please register`. I have been waiting over 2 months now. At least I didn't have to pay and send in ID.
PS The password paper isn't bottom friendly at all. Shame!0 -
anticlaus - see post 97 -response from website "need to register" was sorted when I typed acc no in rather than copying it from my email. May work for you.0

After writing to Mr CEO 17 days ago, and not receiving any response, I decided to write him another letter not quite as polite as my first. In the envelope I enclosed a copy of the previous letter and a copy of my e-mail sent on 5 August with their reply on the 18 August which did not answer the questions asked.
About 1 hour after I'd posted the latest letter a courier service van arrived with a packet from ICICI. :j Inside was a reply to my original letter, not from Mr CEO but an underling, very apologetic. Also enclosed was a triple popular classical music audio c.d. with their compliments. So now feeling slightly embarrassed, he will have received my second letter this morning.
However, I think after 16 days I was justified in writing again and although not completely expecting a reply from CEO it would have been more acceptable considering it was to him that I originally addressed my correspondence?
Still think they're rubbish though.0
