    Then you should know better!

Seriously - how lovely.... did you have a 4x4 on this farm??? ;)

Actually we didn't, a 2 wheel drive pick up was more than adequate. Any thing more than that needed we had lots of "gert" big tractors - and they were only 2 wheel drive as well !

    I've been Money Tipped!
Having been hit side on by a 4x4 i have to say they are far more dangerous.

A normal size cars bumper would hit my panel, the 4x4's bullbar came through the side windows and shattered my sons carseat!

Also most suv's and 4x4's would hit a pedestrians chest and head rather than their lower torso and legs.

Its a no brainer than most accidents with a 4x4 definatly dont favour the other car or pedestrian.

With the greatest respect, most people spend their 20k on what suits them. What proctects them & their families.

People tend to buy 4x4's to feel safe & secure on the road. Its not about not caring about others, just about putting your families safety at the top of your list.

People don't buy 4x4's to come of worse in an accident.

Typical selfish and arrogant attitude from a typical 4x4 driver.

It's OK to kill and maim others, as long as they are OK..

Typical ill thought out argument from anti 4x4 brigade.

No-one has said it is ok to maim and kill others if it means you are ok.

Sounded very much like; Me...Me..Me.. to me.

And they wonder why there is so much " hatrid " against them? ( OP's spelling, not mine ).

Why is that selfish or arrogant? I don't like 4x4's and drive a very low-down sports car which if hit side on by a 4x4 would undoubtedly come off worse. That said, I don't expect people to change their car purchasing decisons because of the car I choose to drive.

I chose my car for its high performance. If someone wants to choose a car for its high-safety rating then that is good for them. If I had children, then I would follow that approach.

Ultimately, if a particular design of car passes all applicable safety tests then people should not be criticised for driving one on the grounds of safety to others.

They've changed the law on these now.

IIRC no vehicle registered after 1st May 2007 can have hard metal bullbars fitted. EU approved ones are allowed, but I believe these have to be predominantly rubber or plastic (ie similar material to the bumber). I believe they are also not allowed to extend above the bumper, although someone will probably correct me on this!

I would point out that most 4x4s have a much larger, flatter front end than your average car. Therefore the impact force (in a car-on-car crash) from a 4x4 is spread over a larger area compared to a similar weight car impact at the same speed, hence the intrusion into the passneger area of the vehicle being hit will be less. The momentum will be higher though (force x velocity) for a heavier vehicle, so a heavy 4x4 will do quite a lot of damage

    Exactly.

I personally don't like sports cars for me, I personally think with a 70 mph speed limit then whats the point in owning one, BUT the same could be said of my 4x4 that doesn't go off road:D

If its passed its road tests & it legal to drive, taxed, insured & MOTed & paid for by the person driving it to suit them, then surely its up to each of us what we choose.

I think people who gamble/drink/smoke waste their money, they prob think a 4x4 is a waste of petrol money (I tend to visit the petrol garage more than my last little car:rolleyes: ), but the point is, IT'S MY MONEY, I EARNED IT, ITS NOT A DSS CAR, surely its up to me to choose the car & model I like.

The last person that tried to tell everyone what sort of car they could have was Hitler with the old VW Beetles:rolleyes:
