I have been following this thread and I too am one of these evil female 4x4 drivers. I do not do any school runs and I must admit I do not see the point of these vehicles in the large cities but i would like to make some points. I live in a very rural area so between were I live (I was born there) and requiring a towing vehicle this is my best choice. However I do take mine into the city sometimes for hospital appointments ect. I am a care worker to the elderly, outreach and I am the most in demand due to my 4x4 as all the clients find it easier to enter/exit and carry wheel chairs. Due to my Discovery I can get to work when others fail due to bad weather, this can double my lists for the day but vunrable folk get seen, when my neighbours cannot get up the steep hill in ice at home I am the one who tows them up and yes I do use the vehicle in fields to feed horses. I am not a farmer but I still need one of these vehicles, and my 4x4 provides a critical service to the elderly yet I am a monster for owning one and yes I could buy a smaller car for the odd city use but then the clients cannot get in it and that's another vehicle putting a strain on the environment. I do not live on a bus route and due to interest I did the online act on CO2 test and between myself and OH we are half the national average for CO2 even with the evil 4x4.As to being a woman driver, unlike my partner I have a spotless driving record and know how to park unlike may small car owners who need two parking spaces!

My jeep is lpg so pollution isn't an issue. It is exactly the same size/height as a voyager, the grand voyager looks longer to me. There are loads of people carriers as big in size and weight as my car but without the 4x4 tag so don't get the abuse. They would do as much damage if they hit a child. The excuse that transits serve a purpose, there are smaller vans that serve the same purpose so should people be vetted as to what size vehicle they should be allowed to the needs of their business, rather than their choice? thats whats being advocated for us. Democracy?
I've read threads where people refuse to let 4x4s out at junctions. Pathetic. All vehicles would cause damage if they hit a child.
Are there any reasonable statistics saying MORE instances of pedestrians being hit and caused greater injury by 4x4s than other groups, such as boy racers? For myself, I drive carefully whatever car I drive, and don't sprout horns as soon as I get behind the wheel as commonly portrayed.
Also, why, in this thread, are we accused of 'making excuses' for our ownership by the bigots who are happy to foist their veiws and opinions on us. I make no excuses, just give the facts for my circumstances.

IMO fair play to anyone who's willing to pay the extra road tax and petrol/diesel costs etc. They obviously have more money than me :D
  • More Trolling... I'd save your breath everyone.

To outline, you've asked why people don't like 4x4s (through popular definition of a 4x4). People have given you the facts, and you've responded with the following arguement:

"ME ME ME LALALALALA CANT HEAR YOU ME ME ME ME ME"

Genius... I'm not even going to bother with the actual point in question, as you would never listen to a word anybody said anyway no matter what valid points were raised.

Go read up on it on the Internet.

Similarly you refuse to listen to any reasoning on why other vehicles are as large, gas guzzling and dangerous as a 4x4, or produce any valid statistics. Of course, there can only be one side to this debate, YOUR side.
Maybe the tone of your post says it all.

Well, my employer kindly gives me the money every month to pay for ALL of this (and for the 4x4 itself), but my ownership of a 4x4 is justified, as it actually removes the need for me to have a SECOND vehicle for use on site.

I do actually drive across fields, along pipelines, along unsurfaced byways/bridleways, farm tracks etc as part of my job!

If I had chosen to buy an ordinary car, my employer would have had to provide me with a 4x4 for site use, so I've taken one vehicle off the road due to my choice of vehicle.

So let's have a 'go' at big people carriers too then! :D

Peter you seem to have completely missed the point I was making, that was because of increased taxation 4 x4 drivers are paying there way. Sorry if I misinterpret.

Also I should mention the big difference between a big people carrier and a big 4 x 4 is still weight and the large amount of energy wasted to drive the other 2 wheels when its not needed. (Honda CRV and probably a few others excepted.)

Thinking about it you may be right, lets hang draw and quarter anyone driving a car more than a year old with dodgy emissions:D :D
