Thankyou Peterg, the voice of reason in the madhouse of PC propoganda.
SWMBO adores her hilux, and i'm thinking of selling my merc and getting a legacy.
And amid all this claptrap we hear, i suggest the greenies take a bus to Southampton docks and watch the truckloads of V8 petrol engined range rovers and jags heading into dock gate 4 for export to countries that are fortunate enough not to have the aforesaid PC propaganda machine running at full steam.
Oh sorry i forgot my brainwashing, we are supposed to lead the rest of the world by example.0 -
Amusingly, TfL recently carried out a survey/research on the frequency of car accidents involving 4x4s compared to other cars.
The purpose of this research was, of course, to produce evidence to support Mad Ken's hatred of 4x4s and his persecution of their owners.
Unfortunately for that idiot Livingston, the results showed that 4x4 drivers were 30% LESS likely to be involved in an accident than drivers of ordinary cars, due to both better on-road stability in hazardous situations and the ability of drivers of such vehicles to see hazards further ahead due to the higher driving position.
I guess he will have to come up with some other propaganda then!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
You can all say what you like, not pointed at anyone by the way, I am neither for or against 4X4s. They have thier place, but they use more fuel and they are taxed higher so in my view they pay thier way.
I only wish the school run young mums would learn that the off road element is not parking them on the pavements:mad:
We have a problem where I live, the road due to a bad bend has double whites, At times of the school run this is totally ignored by all including the police, cars not just4x4s park anywhere, accross drives etc.
Now I'm no neighbour hoodwatch promo but I do watch what happens on the road outside my house. I can guarantee that there are at least twice as many 4s on the road at 8;30 and 3;30 than at any other time of day.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

I am not being rude and don't take this personally, but your statement articulates the irrationality of the argument. Why not say: '....I am neither for or against MPVs or Bentleys or Ferraris...or anything that 'I' (you/society) dont particualrly like or are conditioned to dislike'.
'They use more fuel' .... than what particularly??? its all relative. The new model BMW 3.0 diesel X5 (Chelsea Tractor par excellence) is actually more fuel efficient that a lot of large petrol engined cars, it is also in Band F for VED (the top band being G).0 -

Because this post is about 4x4s and nothing else.

Than the vehiucle that is needed to take the kids to school. You can't argue that a vehicle that weighs twice as much as and has twicw the air ressistance as lets say a conventional car, cannot be uneconomical.
Please read what I said, In my view 4x4s are paying for it so fair do,s
Please keep this in context, also please Peter, what does "articulates the irrationality of the argument. " mean? I am a mere philystine(sp)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

And, my previous car was a Ford Focus that cost me more in road tax than your BMW and a Porsche Cayenne.......
Size doesn't always matter.
Its emissions.... and all that malarkeyA government con ??? to suffocate the motorist???
Can't breathe ...Genie

"Prostitution - exchanging participation in sexual activities for money or other goods - has always been legal in the UK."
There is a reasonable explanation here:
http://www.sw5.info/law.htm
The Law is strange, it's rather like the Law on CB radios (remember those ?), it was legal to own one but illegal to use it !
It is legal to be a prostitute but how you do it may well be illegal.
Still got me flummoxedGenie
