don't want to distract this thread, but was it a photo licence?

Yes a uk photographic driving licence.

Anyway sorry I didn't mean to pull this thread away from the main 1p flights, I just felt it was worthwhile noting to be careful and read the t&c's re things like identification to ensure no one else has to fork out like I did.

I've just come back from Ireland with Ryanair (East Midlands to Shannon). I bought shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste etc while I was there so took only hand luggage. Checked in on line at home, walked staright to the front of the priority line and got on the plane first, all for £6!
I can't even get a train from Redditch to Birmingham for that!!!

We did exactly the same thing Booked in online and found an internet cafe when we were there to print off our boarding passes for the return flight. Used my Maestro to pay for the flight and there were no charges for this. Went to front of the queue at the boarding gate. Total cost was literally 6p for 3 of us to fly to Shannon. Also took toiletries in small plastic bottles that were less than 100ml so were able to take them on the plane in our hand luggage.

Bargain if you play it right. We have also been to Pisa and Knock and all have cost 1p each. Can't complain at the service myself, was brilliant.

I've travelled to Dublin before now using my drivers license (photo id) but can't remember if I checked in online or not.

Has anyone checked in online with a DL and been succesful.

I know it's not relevant for the 1p thread, but if we can get the answer to this, it helps when booking the 1p Ryanair flights, whether to choose the 'web check in' option or not.

    Thanks.

I believe the issue is, if you check in online, you must use your Passport.
If you check in at the desk in the airport, then driving license is ok.

When you check in online, you need to supply your Passport Number for printing onto the Boarding Card.
If you had instead put your driving license number, they may have said the Boarding Card was invalid.

You seem to know more than the staff did on the day, and it was never clear this was the case on their T&C's.

    Thanks for that though.

Good luck with the flights tomorrow :D

Correct, to use Ryanair's on-line check-in, you MUST have a passport for ID when you arrive at the airport. Not only that, but it MUST be an EU/EEA passport only.

You have to tick the box next to this text when making your booking to select on-line check-in:

Please confirm you will present a valid EEA/EU passport or valid EU/EEA Government issued National Identity Card at the airport? (Driving Licence not accepted) YesNo
