  • but a friend went online and provisionally booked for the same party size (last night) and it came out at £810 for all of us for the week, so I'm a little in shock! Xxxxx

Could it be that you are actually contributing (substansially!) to their second week!!! When are you going? Perhaps a family meeting needs to be arranged otherwise you could be the victim of he said she said etc - atleast if you all meet together you can make your argument clear to them all!! They really do seem to be taking advantage. Personally a weekend with my lot would be enough (I'm the youngest too so I know the "eternal baby" feeling - but we're not very close!) Well done on sticking to your guns its time for them to see you're a "grown up"!!!

  • Just remember £519 to pay for a 60th present birthday is very expensive indeed! You could stay at home & buy a lovely present for a 5th of the price!
  • I think your family are taking the mick personally, your sister doubly so as it appears the rest of you will be paying for her to have a second week for nothing. Someone else said that the foster child will be paid for by social services - so if it's the same sister I expect all the details have been worked out so she gets a 2 week holiday for free (sorry can't remember whos doing what, so bear with me if I get it all the wrong way around) Not only do they know you can't afford it, they are expecting you to ferry others around too.
I wonder if should you end up going on this "holiday" will you be expected to babysit while the parents go out as they "need a rest"
Seems from your other posts that they take advantage of you - if you don't go how is the luggage and passengers you would be taking get there?
  • Could you not ask your sister to show you the paperwork for the holiday? xxx
  • It sounds the most ludicrously overpriced caravan I've ever heard of. Stick to your guns!

Good for you ! I always book our family hols and let everyone know up front the costs so we are all ready for it. I take out the cost of my LO and divide the remainder by the adults going - after all why should they pay for my LO - hes mine so I pay for him !

  • I wouldn;t go!
  • i had a similar thing a few years ago when i went on a hen do being told it was about £100 for three nights, turned out to be a lot more, i was miffed - especially when i realised that my friends and i sharing a cramped triple room were subsidising the mother of the bride in her single room!

this year i got asked to a hen do on a similar basis, I had to refuse outright as I wasn't paying to put up someone's mother.

I have looked at sites before now and no way are they that expensive. I agree with others, just be polite and say you cannot afford it. She can keep the deposit if that would be a sweetener, but you can't afford the £519 and remind her you are on a DMP for a reason. In fact that is the perfect answer. Say that the DMP only allow x amount A YEAR for holidays, and that this amount would be too much!!!

And if she cuts up then you could say oh ok, well I will take the cost out of all the money you owe me for xmas presents, so now you only owe me £2500 rather than £3000.......

I want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?
  • Update - my brother and sister refused to pay extra - more my brother & Sister-in-Law. I visited my mum yesterday as not able to see her on Mothering Sunday only for her to throw a fit about it, telling me we were out of order, my husband tried to reason but she made it all about her and how she's survived being on a DMP before and how she feels if we really wanted to go we'd pay a little each week - totally missing the reasoning. But try as I may she simply couldn't get it, she said I may as well take back the card and flowers we'd bought her as we couldn't afford it was like dealing with a child. She then exclaimed that she'd got 5000 pension pay - paid £1800 to our wedding, I was like here we go this will be thrown back each time! But in the end I got a text from my sister telling me to pay £350 and she'd pay the rest. Now i'm in a dilema I don't feel it's fair for her to front the full bill but it appears my brother is refusing, she told me it'd have to be between us, but now we're clear it won't be much of a holiday and we would rather save a little and have our honeymoon, but not sure what to do now - any help appreciated.
