Family Holiday - in the dog house!

Hi
I would be interested in finding out whether people think i'm being unreasonable.
For my dad's 60th birthday I agreed to go in on a family holiday, by this I was expecting something similar what i'd done for my mum's (yr before) Centre Parks costing approx £270 for partner/me and my bit towards my mum and dad (they're birthdays are close) So we settled on a caravan holiday. First thing I heard was £60 deposit - well by this stage I was on a DMP with PP and in arrears with mortgage thanks to DH, but anyway. I said ok I don't have any money, so my sister said "don't worry pay me when you can" then it went up to £133 ouch! then I got text saying "booked it - £519 - £133 deposit!!!!! I was like whoa - the dynamics are as follows
Sister + 1 foster child (teenager) & 2 kids under 10
Mum and Dad
= 1 caravan - £750 approx
Brother & Sister in law + 1 child & baby
Me & Partner
= 1 caravan - £750 each approx
I explained that I felt I was being penalised for being childless, that we should divide by rooms used - this being fairest way and then i'd pay 1/3 of my parents room on top of mine and partners - totalling £360 approx.
Well you'd think i'd refused to pay at all. So I suppose the question is am I being unreasonable?
Thanks
Pip

Hi...how far can you take "pay me when you can"? Simply say, if she's not already aware that there are better ways of spending that kind of money and if she's happy t oget in line with the rest of the creditors then fine...otherwise it's a no-no...if you had a money tree on your garden you'd have used it before wouldn't you? It's bad enough stopping yourself spending your money but having to stop other people getting in on the act is hard work and never appreciated!....
Good luck but be firm and say it's not on.....is there no way of camping nearby? Those caravans sound like extortion! For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -
Doesnt sound like much of a holiday for your parents; stuck in a caravan with their daughter and 3 kids! Financially this seems a heck of a price to pay for an overcrowded caravan. (By the way, your sister will get money from the Social Services to pay for the foster child's holiday.)0

£750!?! Ohhh bad words appear, I was just pricing up a holiday in April for 11 of us which was to mallorca and teh total was £850!Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0

not sure about the mum and kids caravan thing - i've got to share with a newborn! - every 3 hours right?Looking for solutions and hoping for a miracle!0

why is your mum and dads caravan £750 but yours and brothers is £750 each?'They only had one cow!'0
-
total holiday cost is £1558 for both caravans - divided by 3, as they seem to think it's fair to split between 3 kids (kids of the parents - not grandchildren)Looking for solutions and hoping for a miracle!0

oh well that doesnt seem very fair at all! sounds much fairer the way you said, split by 4 then split your mums room by 3!'They only had one cow!'0

Reckon i'm in the doghouse for a bit on this one - my sis in law said "well we'll have to discuss whether the cost can bet met by the rest of us" she's not very happyLooking for solutions and hoping for a miracle!0

It sounds like the caravans have each got three bedrooms, and basically, your parents are taking the 'spare' room in one caravan, and you and OH are taking the 'spare' room in the second caravan?
If that's the case, surely the fairest way to split it would be for you to pay one-third cost of your caravan, and to 'charge' your parents one-third of the other caravan cost, split evenly between the three siblings... so you pay your own one-third, plus one-third of your parents' one-third iyswim!
In short, NO, you're not being a bit unreasonable!I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.
