whats this caravan got? a butler and a maid each, plus gold inserted into the interior or something? i think you need to resort somethng, and if shes gone on and booked it then be honest, and back out, cos you cant afford it, maybe do your parents something different urselves?0

Hi Pip, I agree, are the caravans gold plated!! Last year I, OH and DS aged 18 months collected the tokens out of the sun and went to the Isle of wight for 5 days. Ok not a full week, but with the ferry costs and caravan we spend just over a £100. I'm not trying to be funny as this is your sister but these caravans seem a rip off, are you sure someone is not trying to pull a fast one on you.0

Hi Pip, I agree with every one else..... you are no way being unreasonable..... and for your sister to say 'we'll have to discuss if the cost can be met by the rest of us' made me a bit mad..... Ur not asking for a sub, just for it to be fair! Stick to your guns!

Hi Pip,
Are your family aware of your financial situation? If they are, then I don't think it was a very good suggested present - not very sensitive to you! Far better to have a family party at home to celebrate, rather than a full on holiday!
However, if they're not fully aware, I would have to go against the consensus and say that I would expect to pay a third of the total cost, with or without kids in tow, as it's a gift from the 3 children and their families... hope that doesn't irritate anyone! If I were having a meal out with friends, I hardly drink and they all were on the booze, I wouldn't want to barter down my share of the bill etc... However, that kind of thinking on my part is probably why I'm in debt tho!!
If I were in your shoes, I would state what my max budget was and suggest going on a cheaper holiday... Best of luck in any case!LBM January 2008DFW Start Debt £27,249, Jan-08Current Debt £25,867, Mar-08"What is not started today is never finished tomorrow."0 -
I thin your going to have to take the bull by the horns and go and speak to your parents, something along the lines of ...
"look mum,dad....about the holiday...as much as i would love to spend your birthday with you i just cant afford £800 at the moment, i know it was a lovely thing for xxxxxx to arrange but £800 is nearly a months wages. I only have £200 saved as i thought we might be going to center parks again but I dont want the rest to have to pay our share either as its not fair, xxxxxx should really of taken in to consideration how much we could afford.
And just hope she has words with sister.0 -
If both caravans come to £1500 and your sister want you to pay £700?
How much are you other sisters paying?
Sounds like your paying the lions share.0 -

This thread is getting confusing - where are you getting £700 from. The initial thread says £519 - £133 deposit. I assume £519 is the total share with a £133 deposit now.0 -
Oh i thought £519 was on top, in that case £386 doesn't sound so bad then!0

Too late to say now really, but I think you should have made it clear to your sister, before she booked anything, a limit to what you were prepared to pay.
Yes, I think she has divided it unfairly. Yes, I think she has paid over the odds for the trip.
But if I were trying to control my spending, there is no way I would give anybody else total control over booking something I would then be expected to pay for!0
