Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 21st February 2008. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning All
Well what a day yesterday was, and I must admit we are still a bit shell shocked. We had said we would go to Alicante with DS and mate, and got dressed had breakfast, and DH said after doing a little walk to a neighbours he didn´t feel up to walking round as his felt like he was floating, but no other symptoms. Not being happy with it I range up to make an appoint for the Dr. that day, was told had to bring him to Emergencies to see one that day, we nearly didn´t but thankfully decided to. The result was that after extensive tests (thank god they don´t mess about here) they advised he had had a small stroke, one cause by a blood clot not bleeding, and they were keeping him in for treatment.
You stay with the patient here and do the TLC bits, so have been on the settee in his room for the night, but woke around 5 he was snoring loudly as normal, and I am on the hospital PC now. He seems fine, but he has been on a drip since yesterday afternoon, presumably to do something to his blood.
The ironic thing here, is I am the overweight, unfit one, and he is the 34" waist fit one, who does not eat fatty food, smoke, or drinks to excess. Luckily DS is over here at the moment, as would not liked to have had to ring him up to tell him this, and he can see for himself that he "appears" as he always does. Not sure if he will be able to fly on the 1st, but that is no biggie, we will just move the flight.
Just read yesterday´s thread, so belated Birthday greetings dlb.
Smokeybabe (((hugs))) and prayers with you still, why do these things happen to the good ones?
Pen-Pen - congrats on the hours, but see you will "volunteer" the missing ones :A
Lillibet (((hugs))) Anniestar - thanks for the wave. Lovely kids H-H.
Can´t remember any more and need to go back to see DH. So Hugs and Hi´s to you all.

Hi Donny - obviously, you've gone to get the sticky!
Just a quickie from me because I have to wake DH up in a minute for work. I've been up since 3.30 - I could have gone back to sleep but got up because I was hoping to see the lunar eclipse, but it was too cloudy! Anyway, I've been downloading free knitting patterns instead and written a couple of letters so I don't feel the time has been wasted! I shall be desperate for a nap later, though!
My office is a mess now because we have had to install a new shelf unit for files; DH's business paperwork is really taking over now that he's picking up more work. Besides his private work, he's tendering for local authority work as well so that means a lot more paperwork. I don't mind, though, because he's paying me a (smallish for now!) weekly wage for doing it! I've made him promise me it's not really part of the housekeeping money! I'm going to open a savings account for it and save it up for Chrismas, birthdays and so on.
Well, I must go and get the kettle on and take him his cuppa; as soon as he's left for work I can get stuck in here. He's taking my car because he's having the brake pads replaced in his so I can't be tempted to go shopping apart from a wallk up to the local shop for the milk and paper.
Hope everyone has a great day and I will catch up with you all later.

Morning. It could be a long day today. I don't really know what to do. I have some time off and have no real projects in mind. I ended up working in the garden yesterday and moving a ton of rocks and clearing up an area.
I could decorate this office, but the thought of moving all these books and files is frightening.
Hmm, I will have to think of somthing. The OH is very busy with her teaching course and so she is up all night working on that. I wishj I could help.
Well I seem to be waffling.... have a nice dayNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning All
Got to see the building society later as my solicitor called me late yesterday afternoon saying they want to complete on the flat next Friday and want my deposit by the end of the day. I had no idea we were that close. So I'm hoping things can be sorted out after work this afternoon.
Had mutton curry last night with the left overs from Sunday lunch. Was really nice.
Hoping to get to bed really early tonight as I've got that interview tomorrow. Working in the morning and leaving early. My best friend's decided she wants to come with me, which is nice.
Did some scouting round the shops yesterday as a friend's decided she wants a hamper of smellies for her birthday. Only problem is, she only wants the expensive stuff. I've managed to get shampoo and conditioner (BOGOF), deoderant and shower gell (£1.50 off) do you think that's enough?I really can't afford much more.
Hope everyone's okComping, Clicking & Saving for Change0 -

Morning
Donny, thank goodness you phoned the doctor, and that DH seems OK. I'd like to think our National Health Service would be as efficient
Scuzz, don't worry, if she is a true friend, she will be thrilled whatever you give her.
Well, just heard about British Gas £600 million profit  I am still with them for gas and electric, so will be switching today. How on earth can they justify profit levels like that when we have people who daren't switch the heating on
Not sure what to cook today, but bought two recipe books from SW, so will have a look at those.
Have a good day everyone xYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -

Still loved, still missed and very dear

Morning all
Hope everyones okay...
D-G - Hope your DH is feeling better.
British Gas - that makes me feel like changing too, have to speak to DH later.
Went to see a greenhouse last night and it was lovely, just what we need (we have tomatoes starting to grow on windowsill in spare room but they'll soon take over that) so we're going to pick it up on Sunday.
I get snidey comments at work "trying to live the good life are you" and how I've got an old head on young shoulders etc. But does it matter if we're happy?? (I'm 21 btw). We have saved so much money from cooking things through scratch, meal plans etc, growing veg and we enjoy doing it. I've been following the simplifying life thread and I agree with that. I would rather get rid of all the cutter in my life, learn to live on a budget so when we start a family (which will hopefully be the end of this year) I wont have to rush back to work. I dont try and "keep up with everyone" anymore, lifes too short and its not worth it. I love oldstyle and I wont be changing for anyone.
Rant overhave a good day everyone! xx

(((hugs))) to Smokybabe x
Catowen and Anniestar :hello: :hello:
woke up with a headache this morning so hope that soon shifts. Off to do some cleaning for Mum today - got 2 days off, DH has gone to work - got him up at 3.30am:eek: he managed to fall over yesterday and hurt his knee but he's struggling on, he did enjoy his first day as a milkman so thats good news.
Hope you all have a lovely day.
take care xDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Morning again. DONNY - (((hugs))) to you and your DH; thank heavens the rest of Europe seems to take health seriously. Wish him a speedy recovery - what a shock it must have been for you all.
SMOKY - (((hugs))) to you and your family.
CHARLIE'S MUM - Yes, I think I'm going to be switching from British Gas now; I have both gas and electric through them and cannot believe that I have contributed, through hard-earned money, to such massive profits. Who do they think we are? Without us, they're nothing! I know Martin gave the go-ahead to switch last week and this is just the impetus I need to make me do it. It turns out I'm in credit with both the gas and electricity so I should get that back, too!
Well, DH has just gone and I'm looking at all that I have to do and wondering what to do first! We're having stew for dinner so I suppose I should prep for that first. Then I think I'd better make a list. I also need to phone my buildings and contents insurers; last year when they renewed it they sent the renewal to this house but the cover was still on our last house. I wrote and told them but I think they've made the same mistake again but posted it to the last house as well. I should have had the renewal notice in December and it's just dawned on me that I haven't received it yet. If I find out that they've been covering the last house, despite having been instructed not to, I shall ask them for last year's premiums back. That should make sure they get it right next time. Why do you always have to do someone else's job for them? It happens to me all the time! I need one drawer of my filing cabinet just for mistakes made by other companies now.
Anyway, enough moaning - loads to do and it won't get done while I'm sat on here!
See ya!

That's not seen as a rant around here - it's what many of us do :T :j And if it frees you to spend more time with your young family (rather than as a wage slave) your colleagues will be envying you in time
