How old is too old to have a baby??

Perhaps that is dependent upon area? My younger sis had her first at 40, last year, and the doctor and midwife told her that they see a lot more 40+ first time mums to be than they used to.
this could be true, the unit i work in is massive though, we had 864 babies born in january!!£608.98
£80
£1288.99
£85.90

My sister is having her first at 28.
I was 21 when I had DD all those years ago, and I was 1 of the youngest in the maternity unit. :eek:PinkPunkBird

I was 29 when I had my first (now 35 and hey, who knows?). There was only one other mother of my age at our post-natal classes - the rest were teenagers (but this was in Crawley, teen pregnancy capital of Europe  ) They asked me outright, did I have a baby then because I was about to turn 30 and would be soooooo old? I managed to refrain from saying, "No, did you have a baby so young to get a council house".They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

I was 16 (no more than a child myself) when i had my son,23 years ago and was the youngest at my anti-natal classes and on the maternity ward(although some of the older mums tended to mother me as well)
I did want more kids but things were not meant to be.I had an ectopic pregnancy at 22 and things just got worse from there regarding my fertility.Over the years i got used to the idea that i would probably have no more kids but after having an endomertrial ablation and sterilisation last year (due to constant and very heavy bleeding) my child bearing years are definetly over.
Now though i am looking forward to being a grandparent for the 1st time in March."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0 -
im 21, my mother had me at 40 so now my parents are 62 this year and 65. My brother is 13 years older than me. I have no cousins, my nan died when i was 17 at 89 and my auntie and uncle are in thier early 70's. I think because of this i get on with older people so well, but i do sometimes wish my parents were younger.
This was especially so when i was a child, they wouldnt go to places other younger mums might do. (still waiting to go to disneyland!)
One of the things i hate more than anything about having older parents is now that im 21 i feel i need to rush having a child because i want my parents to have a grandchild while they can still enjoy them properly, and for my child to have good grandparents like i never had. I feel by the time im ready for babies my parents wont be as active or whatever. Especially my father, who was in a bad car accident which left him disabled and now with parkinsons.
But, by golly are their perks to having older parents! I think older parents are less selfish, not intentionally, but the young parents ive seen around me constantly shaft their children to the grandparents at every possible moment so they can go shopping/ pubbing ect. I like i the fact that i can get on with older people alot better than my peers can. More disposable income to spend on you due to the paying off of the old mortgageha.
really what im saying is 40 is fine, but any later and i think not. You'll be 60 by the time he or she is 20.0 -
