I have just added up my spends for this week and it comes to £101.45:eek: I went a bit off track towards the end of the week and spent over £20 in Lidl and similar amount in Tesco. I suppose the upside is that it was on food so I shouldn't have to spend so much next week. I was also naughty and bought 3 copies of Glamour magazine to get the 3 different shades of the Benefit lipgloss:o So that was £6 that I didn't need to spend but spent anyway. I am glad though as the lip glosses are lovely and I would have spent much more if I had gone into Boots.

So I'm on a very tight budget this week to get my average down. I'm working all day Mon and Tues and am doing a voluntary thing before a nightshift on Wed so theoretically I shouldn't be spending much on these days and should be in bed for half of Thurs. I'm off to calculate my budget for the week.

  • Hi magni

another not so great week for me, from my budget of £60 for the week I have spent about £100 (I can't even tot it up properly as I have no receipts for most of it - that is how bad I have been - splurging on a take-away and booze on friday night really didn't help.)

That takes me down to £40 a week for the next two weeks. I am still hopeful as I am off work quite a bit and will be spending lots of time sorting out my new pad when I move in on Friday

I think I need to have a long, hard word with myself

Good luck for the coming week - I really hope I do better this week.

  • Hey guys, good luck with your budgets for this week.

I am definitely improving. I now go into Boots, wander round and leave without buying anything! I am pretty sure they must think I am a shoplifter.

This week OH and I bought bikes each which is a big extravagance! However it was financed completely by OH's overtime pay, so who am I to argue? The rest is going towards OD.

Fingers crossed for a good, cheap week all round.

Hello I've just found this thread. I suffer from depression and I'm terrible at buying things to cheer myself up, in my sane moments I know this just does not work and it's partly why I'v ended up in debt in the first place.
It helps that I don't go out so much now but then again i'v now got the internet and trying so hard to be good, but online shopping can make things seem so / too easy.
Currently I'v got £10 for the rest of the week to live on, mind you I'v already got my food shopping in and paid essentials this week so I should be ok. just really got to keep a tight grip on what I spend it on. I took my dad out for a meal which cost me £19.90 today which is why i'm now short for the rest of the week.
I'v just started a spending diary to see what i'v spent money on.

I get all smug and don't go shopping then spend money on line.

if I hadn't do that this month I could have paid off my egg card.

I am so p!ssed off with myself its ridiculous.

Well done on being able to go into Boots and leave without spending:beer: That's a real achievement. I haven't been in Boots for over 2 weeks now. Maybe I'll be able to visit without spending soon.

    Hiya,

just found this topic and i think it is brilliant, i had tried a few times to keep a spending diary but end up leaving it in my car or forgetting to put stuff in it. but have decided that from now on i will do it!! great idea, loving everyones work.

question though.... does anyone else ever see something they want, buy it by justifying it until you convince yourself that it is a good idea?

i have also read that a few people on here didnt have the most privileged backgrounds or upbringings and this clearly makes people want to spend their hard earned cash on treats and rewards. I understand that completely but i come from the opposite side of the coin, my parents split at 5 (im 20 now) and i lived with my mum, this just made my dad (who becamse successful with his business as i was entering teens) always pay for things and take me to nice places and buy me clothes and basically live a very fortunate lifestyle. I think this had unfortunately given me the attitude that money grows on trees and that there really is a bottomless pit. obviously i was wrong, although virgin, mbna and my overdraft tried to persuade me otherwise.

think it is interesting how different situations lead people to wanting to spend to comfort themselves.

hopefully a spending diary will really get me back on track :)

good luck to all of you and will keep you posted.

Good luck with your spending diary. I have been keeping one for a couple of years now. I'm fanatical about it. Everthing gets written in before I forget. I am also very good at justifying any spend to myself. Hence I'm in debt. However this month's challenge to live on £75 a week has dramatically cut my spending. OK I have gone over budget:o but I was spending between £200 and £300 each week:eek:
