Interesting stuff. I think realising that shopping/going to the shops isn't a legitimate leisure activity is the key.

We're all been brainwashed into the spend spend spend, you're worth it brainwashing. Shops are torture for me and just not entertaining luckily enough.

Ebay's harder, but I'm pretty good at resisting these days.

    Hi magni

I have totted up my totals and this week I have spent the princely sum of £99.06 from a budget of £70:o.

I don't plan on leaving the flat today so that should be that for the week - thank goodness. Right so as I near as damned it spent £30 over my budget and we have three more weeks left I will have to go for £60 per week for the next three weeks.

And my new flat budget is still intact so I have £50 there:T. Now, do I spend this on things for the flat or do I spend it on feeding the people that have said they will help me move with curry or pizza and watering them with beer?? Ho hum, decisions, decisions. I guess it depends on how many of them actually show up;)

    Hello daisychain and ixwood:hello:

You are in good company on this thread - we have all had the willpower of a flea against our addiction to spending. I used to get such a high from shopping and now I still like wandering round but I question myself before I buy. My downfall now is going out, that is definitely costing too much.

This thread has gone a bit quiet recently so it is great to see some newer faces

Well that's not bad, I know how easy it is to rack up the spends in a garden centre (and I don't even hav a garden)

Are you keeping anotebook with you at all times to not stuff you buy that you might forget?? I have to do this as I have the brain of a goldfish. I use it as a sort of spending diary by lobbind receipts into it or making a note of spends if there is no receipt.

Has helped me piece together particularly big nights out the day after too;)

Well I sort of spent £60 on a food processor last night, but it will come back to me as housewarming/birthday gift from OH or parents (or combination) so it isn't really spent (ie it doesn't count). Other than that I have been whiter than white and not spent a penny since Saturday when I spent a fiver on food!!!

Damn I am good (sort of)

    Hi poorandindenial,

I haven't been on for a while. Been too busy working. I had a fab time at Bon Jovi and didn't buy a t-shirt. I went with £30 and 30 Euros and came back with £30 and 26 Euros:j Taking a packed lunch was a great money saver.

So far this week I have spent £49.66 out of my £75. I have done my food shopping but still have Father's Day to sort out. I am not counting fuel in my budget any more as I am spending £25/week on it and I now realise it's unrealistic for me to live on £50 for everything else:eek: . I have a dh and 2 kids to feed as well.

I haven't been in the shopping centre (well only passing through to Tesco) and I haven't set foot in Boots. I wonder are the SAs missing me:rotfl:

Hope everything is going well for you:D

Glad you had a great time - and very well done on the no spending - no mean feat:T

If you don't count petrol that puts us on an even footing as my travel costs come out of my salary before I get it so I think of it as free (I just count cabs and travel that I have chosen to take and pay for - eg the thames clipper which is a shuttle boat but I get it from time to time for the change of scenery)

Phew I only have me to support but even then I am struggling at the moment (I am a bit crap mind), I also have things like my niece's birthday, thankfully I had got tre present last month but the cards and wrapping for that and the card for father's day took a bit of a chunk this week and nights out that I really have to go on for various reasons, oh and somedays I just lack willpower when I get to the end of a long evil day and someone suggests a pint and a chat.:o

I have also not set foot in Boots, I did walk into a clothes shop yesterday, but I walked out straight away and had a stern word with myself. I am pretty close to he wind on the £60 for this week and may well go over again, but next week and the week after I have time off work so that should help (and I'll be in my new flat from a week tomorrow so I'll be cooking properly again and not wanting to go out)

Even with my slightly iffy performance I am still hoping to have £150 extra to chuck at my credit card at the end of the month (which will basically neutralise the balance transfer fee that I will be paying as my current 0% deal is coming to an end) the £150 obviously doesn't come from the budget that I have gone a bit awry on, it is what I have left if I stick to the budget as I made minimum payments on everything this month in case the move ended up a lot more costly than I thought.

Ho hum, I have written a bit of an essay - lol

Good luck for the rest of the week
