I know this is a really random question, but I noticed some of you have previously ordered from QVC.
I was wondering if you could tell me how the stuff is delivered (ie Royal Mail or another carrier) - I'm waiting for a birthday present to arrive, and basically I'm doomed if it's RM  (If it makes a difference, it's Molton Brown smellies, so small/lightish).

OK – fingers to keyboard here! Yep I have managed to clock up a debt of £21k. I have NO idea of how I got to such a sorry state of affairs but here I am and with a lot of help from my family and support from work I am going to claw my way out!
This site is fantastic and gives us all a bit of non-judgemental help! We all know we have cocked up and really don’t need sneers on top of that
I realised about 4 months ago that things were not good but only really admitted it about 4 weeks ago. I have taken drastic steps to get this sorted once and for all. I have HAD to move in with my mum, and at my age can honestly say this is not my finest moment, but in approximately 6 months those pesky credit cards should be a thing of the past. This is my first month of truly addressing the problem and all going well I should clear an impressive £1,502.
I am not going to preach – obviously not in a position to – but I have a couple of top tips, and the first is an excellent one, and has in fact managed to a certain extent control my spending. Have two bank accounts, one being a current account, to which you receive your salary and the other a savings account to which you transfer all of your money to. Make payments from this account and set up a weekly standing order to your current account with your weekly budget amount. It totally eliminates those large spur of the moment splurges and helps keep you in check. The other is when on a night out only take cash – leave your cards at home – it’s very difficult for pi$$y Pete to spend your money when they don’t have access to it!!!!! J
Anyway good luck everyone and hopefully we will all get to a debt free place – wonder if it will be the Garden of Eden I imagine it to be!_pale_ Total Debt as at 30/6/08 £20,952.62:eek:

please can i join the spendaholics club???
Not that I really want to be a member of this club but i need a support group. I too, spend when i have none. I am in the worst possible situation but still spend money. Grocery shopping is my major downfall, made so much worse since i started doing extra shifts in my local supermarket. Whilst i should use my insider knowledge for bargins etc, instead, i sit at my checkout and look at what everyone else is buying and then at the end of my shift, go off and get everything on the imaginary list I have been making. Its absolutely disgusting. Spending about 300 a month for only 2 people!!!! And i have mortgage arrears which must be paid off. I need help guys.DFW 228 LONG H 68

I'd like to sign up to this thread too, please. I'm doing much the same as the same as others on the list, I think. Buying things because I want them, not because I need them, even if I already have something similar to the one in question and of course, spending money I don't have.

I freakin' love Lakeland. It's full of stuff you've never seen in your life, but the minute you clap eyes on it, you know you can't live without it. What did you get??0 -
omg- I dont know if this is such a good idea,- you guys may give me ideas about spending (re:lakeland!)
I have massive shopping issues, I have found keeping myself buisy reduces it, my best idea was to join a gym I really liked going to. It was/is really pricey so I made sure I got my moneys worth- I had been joined to a cheaper gym beforehand for 5 years but never went in more then twice a week, the new gym I was there, everyday, several hours a day. It worked great for my spending- even though I worked in fashion retail! I never had time to shop, even when I left the gym, the shops were shut, and the internet doesnt have the touch factor- plus I hate postage fees!
Then, through no fault of my own, I lost my job. I have mental health issues so its very hard near impossible to find new work (unless I lie) so I am voluntary working. But I can only afford an off peak membership, my weekend is booked, my week days free. This is a disaster! I am on benefits! I can only just about afford to eat!
Already this month I have aquired 10 over-my-overdraft charges, the bank wrote off 3 but said I have to pay the rest. I am liable to £240ish and only get £135 in total a week. I had my mum bail me out and I now owe her the money, which was a mistake as the benefits people have told me this is "income" and I will loose benefits of the £240 my mum gave me. ...Sorry, I am going off on a tangent.
Anyone have any advice as to stopping myself buying random clothes items? I cant even sell them as this is seen as income...etc0 -
i am sorry to hear you are struggling Jenny. It is dreadful that they treated your mum's help as income.
I bought a stool reduced for storage with a lid to put stuff hanging around the hall in, i also bought a towel rail i can put over my cupboard in the utility room and a terrocata tortilla baker. all the things were reduced so i spent about £24 including postage.
I was strong in the sense that i didn't spend £50 to get free postage because that would be an extra £25 spent.
to be honest though i could manage without the things but i love their stuff.0 -
hi Laurajayne, as an exQVC regular, if the parcel is light, they always use RM. Only sometimes do they use couriers. Why don't you ring and ask them?
As an update, I have now started a dmp with cccs, it was the only way really but I too find it hard not to spend but I have new bank account without an overdraft and I can't afford charges.July NSD 10 / 10:T0
