Hi guys - good thread. Nice to have somewhere to confess without being judged or having :eek::eek: done at you by the really hardcore money savers.
Its interesting reading through that the common theme is childhoods people had - always the way eh! Like many we had not much when I was growing up.We were council estate and I always felt like I was 'struggling' for anything. My group of friends were all reasonably well off and I always felt an outsider. I didnt have the trainers and I wasnt allowed on the trips everyone else went on and talked about for MONTHS! I had the humiliation of being a 'free dinner' kid and had to queue for my 'tokens' in full view of everyone and couldnt go to the chipie or the tuck shop with my mates. Would like to say our parents made up for it with love etc but thats also far from the case!
Hence now I have two beautiful children of my own and they want for absolutely nothing, material or otherwise. We spend a fortune taking them out places - once a week - be that cinema, theme park, aquarium, dinner - whatever. We're also guilty of spending on ourselves - have just come back from a 5 star weekend in Prague to the tune of about £1500 - shocking I know but we had an amazing time, we didnt get into debt for it and my way of thinking is that no one knows how much time they have left so best to live life to the full (without self destructing of course!)
To be absolutely honest, it gives me a kick being the one in our family that goes further than Bridlington. Like I've 'escaped' what I came from.
Thats our big 'treat' for the year done now - I'm not crazy - we cant do things like that every month. I guess its about getting a balance...

Member number 12 checking in!
I haven't spent anything today, the sandwich man came in and normally I'd spend about £1.30 on a flapjack and a can of coke but I have two pence in my purse so can't!!!
I'm feeling an urge to go onto the dorothy perkins website using quidco so that I'd get some cash back and get some new clothes, but i can't. The CC card is already at £80 because I ran out of money earlier on in the month and needed petrol.
That and I've run out of duty free fags (yes I know I should give up but I'm not in the right frame of mind to give up!) so I'm going to have to buy some either today or tomorrow. Don't shout please!0 -
Morning all!
It's so nice to have a number, thanks! Shame i can't fit it in my signature. As soon as i knock another debt away i will add it in!
No compulsive spending this week, apart from a wee jolly to Boots on monday but it was vouchers and advantage card points i spent, so felt like shopping but cost nothing.
In fact, cheeky mare i am, i had bought a couple of meal deal sandwiches for me n Erin's lunches but the sandwiches were truly awful! disgustingly soggy and bland, so i took them back, i paid 6.00 for 2 meal deals (2 diet cokes/2 crisps/2 sandwiches) and i got back £5 for the 2 sandwiches as a refund.... which i thought was a bargain! As it was on a voucher card, i managed to spend it again immediately on some smellies for OH's birthday which was that day, so he got an extra treat!
A minor moral consumer victory, i hope you'll agree!?I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
ha ha definitely Maz- well done- not enough people complain about sub standard stuff!
I'll have a number please! I wasnt going to bring my purse to work today but I thought I will because I get a paper for my dad, I'm out of bananas for my brekkie so wil have to get one at the over-priced corner shop. It was too cold so I did without but now its lunchtime, I'm starving, and I know a banana, crisps and a glossy mag will end up in m greedy hands!
Maybe not actually, I'm going to try and not eat crisps today, and I can post on here instead of reading celeb goss thats probably made up....Compulsive Spendaholic #150
