    Hi everyone,

As I said on a previous page i've got a 20,000 dissertation to get cracking with. In theory it was meant to be done by the 21st September although that is a bit optimistic now (uni are happy to give me an extension due to illness) however my other degree starts back on the 28th September so I don't really have lot of time to do my dissertation once I start back!

I'm just getting over swine flu but hope to start my dissertation in the next two weeks. I've never written a dissertation before so am quite nervous about it, and will be popping in from time to time hopefully to get a kick up the bum!

OMG you guys - I have just found my salvation!

OK, I have a 60 page dissertation to write IN FRENCH!

I have written 14 pages, don't know how long I have left as my French uni are crap at telling me things like deadlines (but I'm guessing about 2 weeks although it could be a fair while longer, but I'm not counting on it), I've never written a big piece like this before and since my dissertation supervisor knows the grand total of 0% about my topic, I have nobody to talk to about it. I'm in a fairly bad position when I put it like that, and I just need somewhere to come and say 'Hey, I've got up to here' to keep me on track (kicks up the bum are a welcome additional extra).

On the plus side, I've done a ton of reading, have copious notes on my books (it's a literature thesis) and think I know where I'm going with it (on a good day. I feel  about it the rest of the time). It's just that getting it all out in a foreign language is quite hard, when you need to sound quite precise, and it's quite a lot to write in any language.

OK, so if you could offer alternative support/bum kicking, I would totally appreciate it.

    Thanks! :T

Aim 1: not going to be tonight until I've edited section 1 and reprinted it,

Aim 2 (tomorrow): start on S2: expand on plan & start writing up. Aim for 5 pages in French.

P.S. Any advice would be also be appreciated! :)

All motivation for my dissertation has gone out of the window. I just can't be bothered doing all the analysis and all the reading :(

Keep going guys - it will be so worth it in the end!

The only thing I could do when I was sick to the back teeth of it was work through the block/barrier.

Try and always finish a session relatively happy as it feels worse starting again if you've gone on until you are really fed up the time before.

Inapickle - a dissertation in French!!!

Thanks for the motivation, and as for the French, I know! Why have I done this to myself?!

Anyway, had a massive lie-in this morning by accident (feel oh so guilty now), have 1 hour to work now before I have to go to work 'til 10 tonight, have to take my mum to the hospital Friday morning and then have to work 16 hours next week. Where am I going to fit all that studying in?!:eek:

That was a good tup abotu leaving one session feeling happy so that the next one doesn't seem such a bind. I'll try to stick to that, but given that I'm happy with very little of it, it might not be so easy at the minute. ;)

    Thanks!

OK, so have had coffee with a friend this afternoon and talked things through. We reckon it's do-able, but only if I sit down and work my backside to the ground.

Henceforth, I shall be aiming at 8 pages a day in French for the next week, which will leave me time to edit at the end. I'm about to embark on the first 8 pages, so wish me luck! (As you ahve probably guessed, I won't be here after posting this for a while.)

I'll let you know how it goes in the end. If I pull this off it will be nothing short of a miracle...I CAN do it, I can't afford to thing negatively: I CAN do it, I can't afford to think negatively...

    Wow, good luck!

My dissertation is sort of back on track, and my supervisor is loving me at the moment because it's going so well.
