    update:

Amendments amended and played with references so they look better, and I've been working on the rest. Word count runs at 2300 but that includes references, so probably nearer 1600, so a long way to go yet. I've broken the back of it though, even if the printer is playing up and I need a new cartridge. (It's easier to read a hard copy but unfortunately my technology doesn't agree!)

I'm going to keep going and continue tomorrow, even if it is the last day before the deadline. I can do this but it won't be my best work due to the time available.

Just to let any other students know that I finished my assignment on time (well technically one day late) which meant writing over half of a 4000 word assignment in around four days, and as someone on a taught doctorate, this wasn't easy! I'm totally exhausted but really pleased it's done, even though it could have been much better, especially the final section that was written in a hurry.

So, a sigh of relief here and I'm glad I got it done in the end. As I'd already had an extension it would have caused problems if not done, and if I give up I have to pay my fees back to my employer! Time for a break now until after my holiday (mid December) then it is seriously back to studying.

Good luck to anyone else beavering away - keep going.

    Thankyou to all posters:D
  • I handed mine in last week, the full, final thing. Now I have nothing to do and am quite bored.

Magical, you still have a good month to get it done. It's only 5,000 words, it's really not a lot. I managed to get nearly that just with an introduction, literature review and methods section.

Take a deep breath and let it out slowly. You have 6 weeks, that's less than 600 words a week which need writing, taking into consideration a week to make corrections, proof read and get it bound.
Break down what you need to do into small aims, assign a deadline along a timeline for each piece. Then you can just concentrate on one aim at a time and you know that sticking to that timeline will mean you'll get it done without just looking at the whole and wibbling. I thankfully haven't got to dissertation time yet but I always need to break big things down into lists because otherwise 1. the sheer volume of work scares me and I got into hiding mode. 2. It's satisfying ticking things off a list - makes me feel like I'm achieving something each day :) Good luck x
  • Hi all,

I have written about 5000 words and I have 10k more words to go. My master's dissertation is due in a month and I am quite stressed out right now. I am currently waiting for more response to my questionnaire and figuring out how to use SPSS.

Guess I'll be spending Christmas working on my dissertation.

Heya everyone, Im writing my dissertation at the moment, the critical literature review part of it is due in Monday. I have reviewed all the literature etc I am just at a loss as to how I am meant to be laying it out. Does anyone have any suggestions??

On another note I find it easiest to sit with my diary and everything that needs to be achieved and set a target for every day! Find it easier to stick to then! And makes the task seem easier.

Have you made a plan of the structure of your review section? Perhaps sub divide into topics, such as how this relates to your topic, definition of terms, underlying issues (e.g. legislation), key theories or pieces of research (with critical analysis). It's much easier if there are headings to sections to lead through it and write it a section at a time.

It sounds like you have better working habits than I do, though I'm good at listing what needs to be done.

I've finished. Had to be handed in before Christmas, so that's me pretty bored now. Essays just aren't the same!

As for literature reviews, I sectionalised mine into the different aspects I wanted to cover.
