Someone else mentioned using Empty washed out plastic milk bottles for freezing stock, this is also good because you can easily see the quantity of stock you have eg. 1L or 2L for specific recipes.

Just wondering do you blanch the veg. before you freeze it. I bought about 5kg carrots on half price special and would just like to freeze them. Any suggestions?

I normally blanch carrots, in fact all root vegetables.

There's an older thread on freezing carrot to be found listed under "Freezing" in the Cooking section of the MEGA Index that might be of help. The shortcut straight there is linked below. :)

  • I buy the laminate floor wipes from the pound shop - 30 for £1.00 (suprisingly enough!), one large wipe will do our tiny bathroom floor really well, and then I use it to wipe over the skirting boards, bath panel and the stainless steel bin before chucking!

When toilet training very small people and when they're almost there but not yet reliable put the little ones in pull ups but with proper pants underneath when travelling in the car. Result- one relaxed Mummy, no wet car seat and if your children are anything like mine was he didn't ever have an accident [but he would have done if he'd just been wearing the pull ups]

I don't actually blanch my carrotts, I have in the past and found no difference in taste or texture, plus I'm lazy! I know some people do, my mom infact, but now Ive tried and tested it I don't bother.

Buy actual dishcloths and wash them time after time. Better as they are a bit rougher than these wipes. Ive bought wipes, and after "refinding" the dishcloths" Ive never had to bother buying wipes again. Brilliant for the environment, good for my kitchen and even better for my purse. Ive had the same poundshop dishcloths for 6 months saving myself in excess of £50!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind

I've done that for years. They di eventually refuse to come clean, although you can bleach them, but they last for EVER.

I normally do two loads on a Sunday and as soon as the first one is done, I put the second load in and start ironing the first load.

I would NEVER, EVER, EVER iron dry ever again!

Admittedly, I do end up with all of the ironing hung up around the front room, but normally, by the following day, it's all dry and can be put away.

I read this thread today and so, determind to save time, put some washing on to time to finish when Planet Earth started. Thanks to your thread the ironing was much easier. It also elimated the 'shiny' problem you sometimes experience when ironing. I then ironed previously dry bedsheets on the damp ironing board and that also worked well. How sad am I that I've become so excited about ironing :o .

Thank you for a GREAT tip

My midwife pointed that out to me - she said the fragranced ones and the Johnsons ones (with the stripes) are most likely to cause nappy rash because they are quite harsh on the skin.

I've used Tesco's unfragranced wipes, they are quite thick and DS is 8 months and has never had nappy rash

My baby had nappy rash for about the first three months of her life, until a friend suggested I use a bit of Baby Powder just to make sure she was really dry before putting on cream. It worked! Why didn't the midwife know that??? she could have saved me a small fortune in failed nappy rash creams as well.

Another use for Vaseline (or hand cream works too) - if you're in a hotel or staying in somebody elses' house and find yourself in a Sudden Squeaky Door situation, rub some into the hinges. - better than climbing around hostesses' cupboards in the dark looking for the WD 40!
