    Thanks Bronnie

I did notice that some of their knicks were about £11! And after paying about £30 for a bra I just couldn't justify that. Think I'll give M&S a go. :)

    Hi Kandi

Ever thought of not wearing any knicks at all?

I'm being serious and it's not a wind up.
  • I have two chums who went to Rigby & Peller for fitting and they both came away with two bras each and they were not expensive at all. They have huge ranges in lots of different price-bands. One of the ladies at R&P recommended that my chum hand-washes her new bras only once a week, so you really don't actually need more than two, I'd say. If I had a decent-sized bosom I'd be round to R&P like a shot: both of my chums looked 1000% better and if you didn't know it was the bras you'd be convinced they'd both had face-lifts or something. They both looked youthful in a totally not-able-to-put-your-finger-on-it sort of way.
  • Right first priority is to get well fitted. Bravissimo are absolutely THE best chain for this, but Rigby and Peller are also excellent if you are going to london. Some small independant stores are also good but not all.

Generally speaking fitting a bra properly isn't about a tape measure, it is all visual. It is well worth a trip to bravissimo, if you have the sort of problems you describe you probably aren't in the right size. Check your shoulder straps are correctly adjusted too, if they are too long it can allow extra bounce.

Next is style of bra. Not all bras are as good as each other, for every day practical support look for one with three hooks at the back or even more not the standard two. Look for wide straps and full cups and good sturdy elastic.

NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER buy a stretchy bra, they are not supportive.

Avoid seam free bras for the same reason.

Look for a well made bra where the seams and panels give you shape. You can see the effect in the Bravissimo cataloge, there is one that they speciafically say gives a great shape due to the side panels.

While plunge fronts or balconettes might be nice for under specific clothing you will compromise on support so go for something a little more sturdy. Sturdy doesn't have to mean ugly, it can be sturdy but made from pretty lace. A lace bra will be more supportive than a cotton lycra one.

Don't get a minimiser bra, they invariably make you look like a badly stuffed cusion, a well fitted "normal" bra should give you two separate boobs that aren't wider than your body and that don't blend into your stomach or disguise your waist, or give you the dreaded "double boob effect".

The most expensive aren't always best, but if you can get a good make like panache/freya/ballet/playtex etc on sale that will be a good buy. M&S do have some good bras, but be selective as some are a bit flimsy, same with debenhams. As you have a larger back, asda would be worth a look. I had a couple of lovely bras from there, years ago and they are still going strong, best bras ever. Sadly they now don't do a small enough back for me. They are cheap but generally pretty good quality. Try them on though to check the fit and quality.

    Good luck.

I went to Evans a couple of weeks ago at Fosse park , their is now a measuring service, the lady there measured me and I was shocked I had been wearing 42E bras when she measured I was a 46G, yes Ive had to throw about 10 bras away , she did recommend though a fuller cup, because I will have them down to my knees if I carried on, I bought 2 simple bras for £20 a special offer they are white and black not too awful old fashioned, Evans have 20% at moment on their site on the bras and the other she recommended is a plunge bra that are £30 for two and quite fashionable, red and black , have a look you will be surprised, try and get measured before your buy too.

I'd be really wary of that, did she measure you with a tape???

If you were fastening a 42 then I can't imagine that a 46 would give your enough support.

Most people are wearing a back size too big and a cup size too small. I would have been interested to see you in a 42G.....

The old measure with a tape and add four thing doesn't hold true, it doesn't account for varying shapes.

Yep, I wish I had a pound for every woman I've ever seen with the straps pulled too short and the back riding up near the neck because the bra is too big in the back and not giving any support at all. Never mind the double-breast effect from too-small cups. If only I had that sort of problem....

  • I LOVE the Panache Confetti, in fact all of my bras are Panache. Go to Bravissimo and try, to me I would spend more on bras and less on knickers

Provided you shave you can stick it the wrong way around to your skin ;)

They aren't really necessary every day though
