hi all sorry havent posted before know comp playing up, angelina sorry you steamed you're fingers did mine in the beginnig but not too bad now unless i'm gabbing on the phone. little tip my mate told me is that she uses a peg to hold bottom of garment. you could try sticking some velvet ribbon on hook of steamer that might stop the hanger swivelling,i also use plastic hangers not ones with a metal hanger.keep persevering honest you will start zipping thru the ''ironing''.:D0

Good idea slash, I'll give the peg a go. Got to be easier than pink fingers. I've followed Larmy and started hanging things on the door and its much easier as it doesnt spin round.
I do like the steamer and can see its use for delicates etc but I can't see it taking over as my only ironing tool because its too difficult to do shirts.0 -
My mum ordered the Tobi Steamer, and she found it useless, it scolded her, took her 30 minutes to do a shirt. She is sending it back, because its useless, she is unhappy about how much itll cost to send back, but thats not the point!! She said shell stick to using the iorn now!0

I must admit I havent used my steamer so much. I've been zipping through everything with the press.
I like the press as I can set it up in the front room and watch telly and in an hour everything I own is ironed!
The steamer is good for 'floaty' type tops and dresses though as it doesnt squash the material.0 -
In one of my jobs years ago, I was a garment presser. I had to use a steamer for the PJ's and satin items anything the press would burn. I also had one years ago myself and loved it once you get onto the hang of it you can steam through anything. I used to pull on the item and steam through it with practice your zipping through that ironing in no time. I have been on about gettign another now as my ironing pile ia squite large each day as i do upto 4 loads of laundry per day!! Also i have a bit more money coming in now.You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !
Would you like to speak to the man in charge, or the woman who knows whats happening?0 -
Well I may have another go then Chunky, see how I get on. I guess it is all down to practise. I find the room got boiling hot and it was taking me ages to do just one shirt.
PS nice to see another yorkshire lass, I'm from Mexborough0 -
Right i'm fed up of burning my fingers and getting unsatisfactory results
The steamer is fine for t shirts and delicates but useless at mens dress shirts. Last night I decided to give it another go and i hung up some of hubbies best shirts. They had come off the line so werent bone dry.
I started steaming them and whilst they did look better, the big creases were still visible. Another thing, while I was doing the sleeves, the hot air kept travelling down the sleeves and burning my fingers.
You professionals out there must have some more tips for me before I throw it out of the window. Its not a cheapie either, its a propress so it should be able to do a decent job.0 -
Ok so I really wish people would stop posting on this thread to make it come back to the top of the page again!!!
I hate loathe and detest ironing, it is the worst thing in the world! Since moving in with my partner 4 weeks ago I now have his shirts (daily wear) and all the rest of his clothes to add to my already stacked up ironing which consists of mine, my 5yr old sons and my 10 month old daughters ironing!!!
So anyhoo now I am wondering if you can hire these press things? I would like to give one a whirl, then if I like it and get all my ironing done I can work on the other half and see if he will buy oneRaising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
The press is fantastic, its the steamer i'm struggling with.
I wouldnt go hiring one though as you can get them really cheap on ebay. They are quite big so A lot of people won't post them. Just look for someone selling one in your area and you'll probably get one for around £20.
If you don't like it (but I'm sure you will!) then just bang it back on ebay!0
