Anyone use a steam press for ironing?

Larmy I think I need help here because I don't reckon much to this steamer. I've just ironed some shirts but they swivel out of the way and burn my fingers!
I've just done some ironing and it took my twice as long as it would have done with the press.
I've watched the Tobi demo on youtube and they make it look easy... and there clothes stay still and don't dance around the holder.
I'm glad to hear that you have been inspired to get the press out... i'll bring my stuff round later0 -
Angelina cotton cloves can help protect against the steam burns, about 1.49 from the chemist.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Right I'll get some before my hands look like patchwork with the burns!
I spent last night looking at a few commercials and it seems that lots of people hang the hanger on the back of a door. I shall try that as it should stop a lot of the swivvelling.
These garment steamers must be popular as the Tobi's sell for good money on ebay. I shall persevere with it.0 -
Yes I have to hang my stuff on the door. As I say the lower down the garment you go the less my machine seems to have steam coming out. So did you get the steamer after the steam press??? You should open a laundry!!:DGrocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Yup sure did. My daughter won £2500 at the bingo and we share three ways with my mam so I got £800 and I decided to spend some of it on time saving gadgets.
Its funny you should mention the laundry because I was thinking today that now i've got all this stuff I could take in ironing and then it pays for itself!!
I'm still not completely loving this steamer you know. Today I steamed over some sequins and they shrivelled up! It says 'safe to use on your most delicate beadwork' What a liar!! :rotfl:0 -
I am not good at doing links but mine is a little pink steamer I got off ebay. Cost about £60 all in with the postage. It certainly would not be effective enough to charge people for any clothes steamed with it! It is though just ok enough for our stuff.
Sadly I think if you were to take in ironing - then you really do have to iron the clothes. Especially shirts. My steamer is ok to do my sons stuff but not the shirts I do for my clients. Luckily I like ironing for money!!!:)Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

I just bought a Tesco Steam Generator iron as there's £20 quid off at the moment, so now it's just under £40 quid
Have finished my first ironing, and it's great, makes it really easy, and it's got a removable water tank which is handy!0 -

Ahhh Larmy you are a professional ironer, no wonder you know all the stuff lol!
I know the steamer you mean (the pink one) there's tons of different ones on ebay and those Tobi ones are fetching sometimes more than they do when bought direct!
My hubby wears a shirt every day and I'm finding the press is brilliant for doing them. I get better sleeve creases than I did with my iron. The only bit I was dissapointed in was the shoulder bit but now I've got a foam bit that you shove under the shoulders and it does them nicely.
I don't think i've used my iron since I got the press. The steamer will just be for delicates like my daughters 'layery' tops that look rubbish when ironed flat.
Deebee I know what you mean, ironing becomes so exciting when you have a new toy, you end up hunting for more to do!!0 -
The upright steamer is fab for doing floaty tops, jumpers, skirts with frills etc. in other words all the stuff that gets shoved back into the ironing basket. Trouble with the ironing I do for clients is they are in the habit of leaving them all scrunched up in the tumble drier so they take masses of spraying until they are virtually wet again. Sadly they never seem to do as I'd like which is hang them directly on the hangers and let them dry that way!
PS I love that little square foam thing that you use to iron the sleeve ends with too. Sad really!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
