Well im not doing to bad, biggest thing for me portion control. being northern(Sunderland) we tend to use big plates piled high. went to see dietican and the portions to me were tiny i give more to my 3yr old lol. i have lost a stone since starting. trying to stay off the scales coz it can get addictive. trying to drink more water too.
have a good day everyone

recovering_spendaholic wrote: »Hi Everyone:hello: After yesterday's gargantuan breakfast I didn't have much else all day and was full up until about 7pm, when I had half a tin of scotch broth and a salad pitta. Still not a great eating day but it could have been worse!
This morning I have had two slices of toast with extra light Philadelphia-type cheese on and after I dropped DD2 off at school I went to the beach and had a walk along the seafront - It was extremely windy though and after only about half a mile I was frozen through and the wind was really hard to walk into, so I returned to the car - but still it was a bit of exercise and beats yesterday when I sat and troffed down a huge high fat breakfast.
Lunch, I think, will be salad with tuna and a cup of soup, followed by an apple, and Dinner will probably be jacket potato with leftover chilli and cottage cheese (its nice honest!) and a green salad, followed by WW yoghurt.
I need to go shopping again and I only went on Monday - DD1 has emptied the fridge and freezer - she had friends round last night and they ate:
4 pizzas (not large ones but still...)
1kg of frozen potato wedges
packet of pittas with most of a whole chicken (in fridge for use today supposedly) and a tub of coleslaw
a box of Cocoa rocks
a packet of chicken sate sticks (bought for packed lunches)
2 litres of apple juice
most of a carton of orange juice
When the boyfriend was leaving DD2 reported that he was taking a carrier bag full of food which DD1 had got out of the cupboards and freezer (he lives in a student house so enough said) and when I said something she gave me a big sob story about how he had no money for food etc etc so I (being the assertive sort) caved and let him take it - at which point he got into the TAXI he had ordered to take him back to his house:mad: No wonder he has no money for food then!!
Reading through the posts you all seem to be doing well resisting when temptation calls - hope it rubs off on me soon!!
Have a great day!
Blimey! No chance of anything left for you to p*g out on today then, hey! My dd went to visit Bath Uni yesterday and it turned out she has a place. (Is deferring till 2009). All the talk of hall fees and self-catering etc etc made me go a bit white really. have already got visions in my head of sending her red cross parcels![SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Morning all you lovely lot
Back from a 1.5hr jolly -just over 6500 steps.... and at least it wasn't as frosty today :T
Amongst other things I picked up some organic feta -only €1.15 -
2 organic avocados
some fresh beetroot.... mmmmm they will keep my happy next week whilst hubby is away
Meals for today:-- Brekkie- cherry yoghurt nomnomnom
- lunch - some sliced beef and salad
- dinner -going to use the other half of the meatballs, with a creamy tomato sauce and im going to make some egg pasta later mmmmm -
- and yogs n fruit for snackies
.... the super bonus is that a gyros teller is about €7.50 each... so €15 if we both want one  (although i only manage half)... the whole meal last night couldn't have cost us €2 in total :T plus it was turkey mince so better for us...yipppeee
Taplady.. i think you are doing a marvelous job of maintainance... thats supposed to be the hardest bit..so an itty bitty 1/2lb.... pahhhh .... its nothing ..so well done :T
Toniwotty... i make my bread by hand (the BM is in the basement waiting for a new home)-the white one is this:-- Put 500g bread flour into a big bowl
- add 3tsp salt -stir and then make a well in the centre
- measure 300ml warm water, add 14g fresh yeast and a pinch of sugar stir until dissolved
- pour into the well, and then sprinkle over the flour from around the sides so you can just see flour
- get a carrier bag and pull over the bowl like a tent
- leave until you see the yeast starting to crack through the flour
- put the bowl in the sink to save mess... make one hand like a spider and swish around in the liquid -dragging more flour in all the time..then start to knead..use the other hand to turn the bowl to make it easier
- when you end up with a ball of dough leave in the bowl and cover with the bag again and leave until doubled in size -or until you get time to see to it
- tip it onto the worktop and knead for a few mins and then shape and drop into a 2lb loaf tin...rubbed with a little oil... push the dough down into the tin
- swish the carrier around to fill up with air and then place like a tent over the tin.. so the dough won't touch it when it rises
- leave until the dough is about 1.5-2" above the top of the tin
- whack into a preheated oven -gas 7 for about 30 mins
- to check it is done -tip it out of its tin, and knock on the bottom...if it sounds hollow then its done..if not just drop back in the oven...
... you can put the dough somewhere warm to speed things up..but you get a better flavour and texture if it is left to prove long and slow..
I put my yeast mix into the flour before i went out this morning..made it into dough about 1/2hr ago and it won't go in its tin until about 3pm..then into the oven about 5pm when the oven goes on for dinner...- You can make a softer crusted bread by using part milk and part water..but we like crusty
- and you can add a knob of butter/mage or a drop of oil to help the bread keep fresh for longer..but in this house it doesn't last long enough to bother... or it gets sliced and frozen..so it saves money and cals
- It might sound like a lot of salt..i don't add salt to my meals..but if i put any less in the bread its bland..but you can reduce it if you like...but give it a go first to see what its like
I can feel another day of sitting on the sofa looking through recipes coming on  .... well im "doing something" really -afterall im researching what to cook for hubby....and of course keeping an eye out for recipes to share of course :A :rotfl:
right i had best get off and get something done...have a great day everyone... and good luck to those weighing in the morning  ....
hello to everyone not mentione-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 - Brekkie- cherry yoghurt nomnomnom

You've done really well, Mamof4. Know exactly where you're coming from over the portion sizes. When I first started changing them I was feeling very self righteous as I thought I was quite the martyr but now its just the norm.
Rec - You're a soft, soppy mum, aren't you?I'm not nearly as nice... I'd have told her that with all he'd shared that night he shouldn't need to eat for a week!
Oh and nice recovery from the blip there, well done!
Am so envious of you, Taplady.... not only at target but going on a holiday, too. (not fair.. not fair..not fair... <sulk> )
Food today:
Weetabix
HM ploughman's lunch with brie and branston.
Macaroni cheese with bacon and steamed broccoli
Now there is something very strange going on in my house. DS1 asked me to buy broccolli and brussels saying he has always loved them (it must have been his alter ego that was scrapping them in the bin these past 10 yrs  ).
DS2 has stopped spending the bulk of his pocket money on foody goodies, preferring to buy the occasional bottle of chocolate milk and a bag of wine gums, and DH gently mentioned that he would prefer it if I gave him half the portion sizes that I normally do of pasta and rice as he can't get through them these days. If you knew him you'd understand the shock!
Are they turning into 'Stepford fellas'? Will they begin mowing the lawn instead of watching moi huffing and puffing red-faced backwards and forwards on the verge of a heart attack? Will they start wiping their feet without the acid look?...Oh my goodness.. do you think they might actually relinquish the remote controls eventually??
I don't know, but times are achanging me thinks.

Just had to pop back....
Recovering ..you are a better soul than me because i would have thrown a fit
How old are DD1 and DD2? if you offer help out thats different ..but to just take it... i would have blown a fuse... especially as one of them is playing up at the moment...hmm perhaps i need to mellow before we have a family
Have to give you huge respect though for keeping control of your eating in the midst of it all :T ... bet that walk blew away the cobwebs :rotfl: ... its like resistance training isn't it...the wind here was like it the other day...god it was hard work....
Purpleivy
My niece will is in 6th form at the moment, but im allready planning for her going to uni.. she is looking at Oxford  ..as she is on a young and gifted thing at school that almost guaruntees her a place ..... little smarty pants :rotfl: .. i have started getting together loads of recipes that will save her a fortune and keep her healthy..im going to put them in a lovely book for her...with loads of info..like conversion charts etc... and then closer to the time im going to do her a hamper with lots of the bits n bobs that soon add up..herbs, spices, etc, and as her pressie we are either getting her a small chest freezer or one of those small cooker/grill things with the rings on top for her room (assuming she is allowed them of course)..you can get some brilliant ones out here.. im determined she isn't going to live off junk..mind she is a foody so she won't take much guideance :T

Toniwoty- Just remembered your plea for bread recipes.
I'm one of the avid breadmachine lovers. Can't live without my Morphy Richards so much so that it's even going on hols with us later this year.
My dad as requested I programme it each night so we wake to a hot, fresh bread breakfast.
If you do choose to get one later, I use just the normal basic white recipe in mine but miss out half , sometimes all, of the milk powder.... discovered we didn't miss it when we ran out one time.
If I want seedy bread I make the basic white loaf, swap 3 of the 4 cups of white flour for wholemeal and add 1 heaped tbsp linseeds, 1 heaped tbsp poppy seeds and a decent sized handful of sunflower seeds. It is gorgeous, a really nutty loaf and much nicer than warbarton seedy batch that I loved before that seems to edge nearer and nearer to £1.40 locally.
I've made sundried bread and olive, herb, onion and garlic bread (all as one, sometimes with cooked smoked bacon) easily by just making the usual basic loaf and adding them at the beginning. Sometimes I set to dough setting and make them into bagettes. I've a snazzy french bread tin (£3.30 off Amazon) that makes great crunchy bagettes, even with the dotty textured bottom.
Either way you do it, I've used machine and hand, you'll wish you'd done it years ago.
I wonder if Frogga has pc problems again. And mhe has been a tad quiet lately. Mind, she's playing with her MIL breadmachine as I recall. :eek:AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

Morning all.
Hi frogga - you still sulking?
Taplady have a lovely time - haven't been to Mousehole since I was 15 - long while ago - but loved it, and the trip to Scilly Isles. Bit jealous
Had a rare day off yesterday - had a lovely time - went for a 2 hour walk in the morning, cooked myself some pasta for lunch (Aldi tomato and olive sauce is lovely - and unless MrsM or someone comes up with an OS recipe that's really olivey flavoured - I'm buying some more). Then did a load of handwashing (including my wedding dress - erm nearly 2 years it's been waiting for that
).
Put a big vat of chilli in the slow cooker for tea (and 2 more teas for the freezer). Then popped down the road to see inlaws.
So nice and relaxing and quiet - work full time and have the step kids all weekend and most evenings, so never get much time for just "me".
Also tried on lots of my posh dresses that now look much nicer than the last time I wore them!! - including one I bought for honeymoon and never wore because it was too hot there - looks sooo much better than it ever did
Got more clothes to go to charity/ebay as they are too big and not flattering - apparently some of the trousers make me look like I've got a "saggy bum"
Weight is still the same so haven't put on after I was ill so still a total amount lost of 2 st. Wouldn't mind losing a little more but happy here as long as I don't put any on againworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Hello folks,
Hows everyone today?
All ok here. I have one daughter in third year of University, and at least one will start a year in Sept possibly two depends if no 3 feels it's the right place for her to go:rolleyes:
My eldest started eating carp at uni but it did not take long for her to ring up and say mum I'm coming home this weekend I'm craving real vegetables- if you only knew how hard done by and deprived she felt her upbringing had been due to my reluctance to buying processed foods:p And now she is a competent cook and not a turkey dinosaur in sight- although I still think she has the odd smiley;) I usually take her shopping every 5-6 weeks spend about £60-£70 that way I know it's not going on booze:beer:
Anyway today
B-smoothie
L- left over couscous with fruit and nuts
D-not sure as its salsa tonight
