I didnt know that! Have you tried gin and soda? I'm a vodka and tonic girl, but vary with vodka and soda because its much cheaper :rotfl: (in a pub) Its a bit different to start with, but you do get used to it.
    Oooh thanks I'll give it a go:beer:
  • Ok well I thought I'd start off with a food diary type thing, as I know I'll avoid the biscuit tin if I have to 'fess up :o

Well done to everyone so far! :A

Today, brekkie was a milkshake (not OS but it's in the cupboard, and quick / easy).
Lunch reheated HM curry and rice (curry consisting of onions, any veg I think might work, curry paste, tinned tomatoes, and threw in some sultanas too this time, which were v nice)

Haven't a clue about dinner tonight! Got one more curry portion left, might boil some extra veg and have them with it.

At work all day I've only had 2 teeny brownie squares :j normally I can't resist the tea-break goodies, biscuits are my downfall.
Although I find if I avoid them for a while, the shop bought ones are horrible! All greasy and icky.
And I can usually resist baking my own stuff, although I'm a pretty darn good cake-baker :D

Quick question - I tend not to eat "leafy greens" - any ideas for recipes etc? Rather than buying a bag of extortionate, aged salad

    Hi all

Well done all the losers! MrsM, isn't it wonderful when you break a stone boundary and go down? Great feeling!

Good to read about all the rebellions against diet foods, and I agree that artificial food makes us fatter rather than slimmer! I still use some natural lower fat versions of foods though, like reduced fat cheeses (sometimes), reduced fat hummus and lower fat yogurt. I also use Frylight, I hope there are no horrors in Frylight as I rely on the stuff quite a lot!

But I also use olive oil in my salad and vegetables. I read once that if you eat vegetables that contain fat-soluble vitamins A, D and E without any fat you just pee the goodness away and it does not get absorbed into your body! So I always make a point of putting some oil on my carrots and broccoli!

Anwyay, food-wise: I had a bit of a (BIG) slip last night, instead of going to boring Wagamama and having YAWN noodle soup, we went to a really nice Indian vegetarian restaurant ( I recommend it very highly, it is called Woodlands and it is in Panton Street, just off Leicester Square in central London) and ate spinach and lentil dal, dry veg and coconut curry, boiled rice and chappati, and I had a pistachio Kulfi as pudding. By all means not an excessive meal, we shared the two main dishes but still a big breach of diet! But it was well worth it.

    Today:

Breakfast: 1 egg on toast (small wholemeal slice) with 1 tsp reduced fat mayo (from M&S, so no nasties there!). 1 pear

Lunch: mixed leaves and tomato salad with alfalfa sprouts and cottage cheese (Not the vlf variety, from M&S this one too, and it tasted great, after being used to the vlf variety this one tasted like clotted cream YUMMY!!!!), Lots of black grapes, organic low fat strawberry yogurt.

Planned dinner: baked pasta with roasted pepper, aubergine and courgette, with a bit of grated cheese on top, steamed veg of some sort (with a bit of oil and lemon juice), blood oranges.

Snack prob. more low fat fruit yogurts, with real sugar YEH!

    Have a good evening all!

    Caterina
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Hiya everyone,

I wonder if I can join? :o OH and I are going to try to loose a little weight for our health. Maybe a couple of stone each, but slowly, cos neither of us can stand a "proper" diet regime.

So our plans are fruit salads for breakfast, ham/tuna/egg type salads for lunch and balanced main meals. Its not too far from what we do now, except cutting out the naughty treats (his mid-morning burger and onions from the works canteen if he's had a chewy meeting, my choccy and coke if i'm starting to flag, that sort of thing), drinking less, and making a concerted effort to exercise more (we're very naughy in this regard [unless we can count the "post water-shed" variety;) ] )

We also don't plan to do weekly weigh-ins (my mum sickened me of this as a teen, forcing me to weight watchers cos i was a few pounds heavier at college than i was at school  ) So we're going by dress size, general energy levels and a monthly-ish weigh in.

I'm gonna try to use the WW points as a guide initially, as OH has never really needed to lose weight before, and feels the need for a bit of a guide. But neither of us like the idea of diet foods, so its OS all the way (have you SEEN the price of fruit???? )

Anyway... enough of a ramble, today I've had:

Breakfast: Fruit salad (apple, pear, tinned grapefruit, orange)
Lunch: Ham salad (2 nice slices of ham, lettuce, red onion, cucumber, red cabbage and a tablespoon of HM walnut dressing)
Planned tea: Baked potato with beans for me and tuna with vinegar for him

Snacks: 1 packet of dry melba toasts (I kid myself they're like Pringles... they're not...)

Good luck to everyone over the weekend!

    Much luv,

    PGxx
  • Evening all!

Well I was going to congratulate all you losers individually but the list started getting verrry long and I don't want to miss anybody so here's a communal :T woohoo, well done everybody!!!:T

Bit embarrassed when you've all been so good.... I've picked and nibbled for Britain the last few days!:o Can't even think of a good excuse - I was going to use the cold weather but with lots of losses happening in equally arctic conditions, I'll just have to think of something else!:D But I am going to be good over the weekend, lots of fruit and veggies and a fair bit of exercise planned - those scales are NOT going to start going in an upward direction, they're just NOT!!!

    Welcome to PG, good luck!

    Have a good weekend everyone!

Just had to pop on Meanmarie ;)

Could it be because you put everyone elses needs before your own ... only a guess... but you remind me of my mum... lovely and wonderful as she is -she always sticks herself at the bottom of the list of priorities..in fact she wouldn't even put herself on there im sure
To a degree i think a lot of us do it... will cook lovely wonderful stuff for hubbies etc..but if its just us "can't be bothered" "grab a sandwich" well i do that when hubby is away

I think you need to need to put yourself 1st more often afterall you need to be happy and healthy to make everyone else happy and healthy too... ok im getting off my soap box now :o

Hope you are feeling a little happier with yourself soon :D

Drives you nuts, doesn't it Marie? You'll get there. ;)

Well done to saversarn and girl least likely on your losses. :T :T

Also welcome to all those that have joined in this week. Nice to have new faces. :j

Have walked my little legs off today.... have just realised Without Using MY Stick :j Am a little sore but nothing terrible. I think I might actually be getting somewhere with my walking now. :T

MRSMC - I have become addicted to Jonagolds over the last few month. They are ridiculously cheap here compared to other apples but have the sweetest, juiciest flavour. Have just bought another bagful today. :D

Pauliegirl - I love the sound of your HM walnut dressing. Care to share how you would make that? :D I adore walnuts and am planning to have pasta dressed with walnuts and creamy blue cheese next week.

Really tired tonight and have the beginnings of a headache so think I'll tuck myself up in bed now.

Take care everyone and will catch up tomorrow. Nite. ;)

Afraid its more a vinaigrette... Basically 1 part walnut oil to 2 parts white wine vinegar in a small wine bottle (like you get on a flight) shaken vigourously into an emulsion. I also add broken up half walnuts to the salad, as I don't eat fish, so replace some of the good oils etc with nuts

    Your pasta sounds lush...

I've not tried walnut oil although I've looked at it a few times on the shelves. Might make that something new for summer. I love salad dressings. :D

Well I managed another loss this week but only just again. :o I lost the grand total of 3/4 lb! Yep, I guess I'm just one of those that has to chip away gently at the great mountain to make it crumble. :p

Actually I think I've been 'treading water' these last two weeks, as I've noticed that my meals have been hurried affairs and not the nicely home cooked meals I'm used to. Will change that this week and hopefully shift that last 1 1/4 lb that I need to get off to meet my BH challenge. ;)

I shall be seeing some friends in two weeks that I've not seen for around 6 months so I would love to have been '18st something' by then but that would mean upping the challenge to 4 1/2 lbs. Now seeing as I've had 2 quite naff weeks I'm thinking that I'm due a couple of biggies. :D That being the case, and to get me focused again, I'm going to strike out for my own mini challenge of 4 1/2 lbs in the next two weeks. That will bring my BH challenge up to 1 stone in total. Think I can do it? :p
I'll need to stick to this thread like glue the next fortnight if I am to achieve that but it would make my day. :j

Wondering where recovering is. If you're reading I hope all is going well on the eating front. ;)

    Food today:
    Readybrek
    Boiled egg with seedy fingers
HM pork & apple burgers in HM soft bap with salad (wedges for lads)

Snacks - red grapefruit, gooseberry fool, orange, pear.

Now off for a refreshing cup of tea and a surf before I begin plotting my strategy for the next fortnight. Am quite excited now. :j :D
