homealone,
I'm sure the wiser (if not always older) old-timers on this thread will chime in but my thought would be that you don't need to decide. If you set yourself such a massive goal, the end will seem so far off that it is easy to get discouraged. I think that maybe it's best to look at it one stone at a time. After all, one stone less is better, and then another ... and eventually, you will get an idea of what is realistic for you.
I definitely don't think it is healthy to have fixation on a 'goal weight' like you get with organisations like WW. I might just be cynical, but it seems to me that (a) they set them ridiculously low and (b) it means they can prey on someone's fear that they need constant vigilance (and use of the 'product') in case their weight goes up again. When I was hovering on WW boards, I had to bite my tongue quite often at threads like "I've got one pound to go to goal weight but I've stalled, how do I get that last pound off". A pound is such a little amount, most of us vary by 3-4 pounds naturally at different times of the month.
So, fwiw, I am currently 14 stone. The charts say I should be 7 1/2 stone but that's wrong. That would be emaciated, as I have quite a big build. If I had a goal, it would be about 10 stone (a size 14-16). But right now, my goal is to get under 13 stone. I'll work out the next goal when I get there.
Hope that helps: you are in a good place to get support with a process that takes a long time. There are ups and downs, but hopefully in the long run more 'downs' if you see what I mean!Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000 -
Haven't time to read all yesterday's posts (15 essays to go in current marking marathon), but reporting in anyway.
Yesterday wasn't perfect but not bad.
B: bacon & two eggs
L: salad and salmon seared in teriyaki saucebarbeque pork chops, hm potato wedge (1/2 a small potato), roast asparagus, waldorf salad
S: 4 oatcakes, 2 thin slices cheese
What was wrong with that: not enough vegetables and I shouldn't have had the evening snack. Felt very bloated this morning. THough weight now down to 14st 0. Which is nice after less than a week.
Today I plan to eat:
B: mushroom omelette, tomato
S: carrot sticks & hummus
L: salad with avocado, tomato, lettuce, pepper; end of salmon from yesterday flaked into itroast chicken, roast parsnip, cauliflower & carrot, gravy
Exercise: well, we go to the once-a-month down syndrome swimming session but with a child who needs 100% supervision, it's more an hour of standing around/a little walking in water than swimming. The marking means I'm not likely to get to go for a proper walk. But in a four storey house and with a lot of washing to do, there will be a fair amount of incidental stair climbing!Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000 -
Morning all
Well done to Recovering and homealone :j :j :j what great losses :T
Hello and welcome Kentish maid and heavenfire
And howdy doody to the oldies
Been up a while and thought i would post a quick one whilst my weetabix are soaking in the fridge.... have to be a particular consistency before i can eat em :rotfl:
Hoping to get out in the garden when the sun breaks through and warms it up a bit. Hubby is golfing until lunchtime so its lovely and quiet...gonna open the doors and have my bon jovi playing in the background....ahhhh bliss
For lunch I have taken some of my hm sausages out of the freezer last night going to do them with onions and carrots roasted in the oven... roast spuddlies for hubby and im having parsnips instead nomnomnom... broccoli, leeks and peas
Then i will only have fruit or yogurts for the rest of the day as it might be a bit late when we get lunch....
will sort hubby out with eggs on toast (have a new loaf under way)
Homealone... i think 12st is a realistic place to aim... but if you break it into managable chunks it doesn't sem quite so depressing... nice itty bitty goals that are easy to reach keep me going... its not so bad now i have lost more than half.. but im still mainly focussing on losing what extra i can before the may day target is up... and as im 14st 13.5lbs my next target will probably just be to get to 14st 7lbs . The mini targets we set on here really help me.... and pretty soon you will be under that next stone :j
By the way folks what was the next target date going to be ?not that im impatient or anything
Hope the PC is sorted and you are back with us soon recovering
KentishMaid.... you made me chuckle last night ..... "BMI says i should be dead" :rotfl:
Im so glad i lost the taste for alcohol a few years back ... i still drink once a blue moon.. but 1 sip and it goes straight to my knees :rotfl: im a cheap date me..... oh and i get a raging hangover if i have 1 drink or a dozen.... must be old age as i never used to get em
Marie... hope reducing your carbs helps.... all our family are carb junkies -left to my own devices i could live on potatoes, bread and pasta... oh as long as i could have my fruit toobut i do know that to many carbs makes me sluggish and bloated..... doesn't always stop me though
Cheerfulness Hope you are still feeling super happy about your losses so far :T oh and i planted those seeds yesterday i think it was...so let the experiment begin. Have to vacuum the spare room in a moment..knocked over a couple of plant pots last night  couldn't vac then or yet today as i don't want to wake the little one up next door...
right i best get of and get that done...get something a bit warmer on then im off outside.... have some more spuddlies to set and some other bits n bobs...ohhhh and have to un-tuck the plants in the tent :rotfl:
have a great day everyone..and keep up the good work-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Morning everyone.
Glad you are doing so well recovering, we were starting to get a panic on that you weren't here. Did we need to worry tho, 5lbs! :T :T See... you're made of stronger stuff than you think.;) Phahh to that doctor that tried to tell you otherwise..you'll show him!
Also wanted to congratulate homealone on that brilliant 3lbs. Atta girl! :T :T
Kentishmaid - love the signature.. shows you mean business and are chomping at the bit to make a beginings. Good for you!
Droopydrawers - thanks for the lovely encouragement... and all the others that made comments yesterday that have made me feel ready to keep fighting on. As they say...I plan to 'go to the mattresses' on this particular challenge this time round.
Food today:
Boiled egg and seedy bread fingers ( I must leave these eggs alone)
Pastrami salad sarnie
Lemon/pepper Turkey schnitzel with roasted veg, steamed cabbage, broc etc
Snacks - red grapefruit, apple and orange
MRSMC - Yay the experiment is on! I've a little head start with my tomatoes and chilli peppers from the pack, altho my chilis are looking very 'weedy'.Have realised that the basil that I've sown is from another seed pack but I'll sow these ones too as I eat an amazing amount of basil in the summer and my mum is always begging for a plant or two.
Right off to have a coffee with OH. He's in a particularly determined mood as he's decided to join me in my weightloss properly now after I asked for some support.
While I'm pleased its a bit double edged as I was getting excited about soon being lighter than him. Sadly I've always been a chubby girl and weighed 13st to his 11.5st when we married. Would just be nice to once in this life weigh less than him. Still... I shall just have to keep going til I do.
Oh and I checked my BMI yesterday Kentishmaid...OH HECK is all I can say.   Got OH to recheck it but no..twas right.MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250

Got on the scales this morning for my 1st proper weekly weigh in and have lost 2.5lb. It seems the meal out on friday and bit of carbs yesterday put a dampner on the 4lb loss I had by last friday. I'm also feeling very sluggish, haven't been since thursday
. Must drink more water today and see if I can get a bit of exercise.
Not to worry though. I'm impressed by the 2.5lb and am thinking on to next week and thinking that I've lost a quarter of my target
B - Bran twigs & sultanas
L - humous and salad
D - Roast lamb, roasties, parsnips, broc & carrots.
Hope everyone has a great day0 -
morning all!
Recovering and homealone - well done what great losses!:T :T :T :T
Homealone - I agree with the others - set small targets that are realistic, MRSM and cheerfulness have proved it can be done!:T
Off to work soon till 10 pm tonight. Will be having a roast lunch minus the meat so no probs there and will take something for my tea - I have a yearning for boiled eggs and toastie fingers for some reason, although I've already had 1 lot of bread today:rolleyes:
B - 2 small wholemeal toasts with butter and marmalade
L - roast dinner - no meat but yorkshire instead.
D - 2 x boiled eggs with toast
snacks low fat(no sweetners) probiotic yoghurt with strawberries and kiwi fruit. banana.
Have a great day all, might have time to pop on after work if I'm not too tired x
edited to say well done to girl least likely to:T might be even more when you've been!:oDo what you love :happyhear0 -

Good moaning all,
Helen Yorkshire - I got this lovely winter warmer off the website below. It's a vegetable and bean hotpot. Last week I tried it without the potatoes and had oven baked sweet potatoes and parsnips instead, cooked with a little chilli infused olive oil, yum. DH most impressed :j .

Welcome to the asylum Kentish Maid and heavenfire, this is a fantastic place to have a giggle and ooddles of encouragement. (Talking of oods, I did enjoy Dr Who last night and Catherine Tate is so good)
Huge congrats to recovering, girl least likely to and homealone :j :j .
I agree with kunekune about small targets. This month I hope to go into a new stone zone so want to lose 3lbs. Next month I want to get so I only need to lose under a stone from target ie another 3-4 lbs loss in a month. I'm in for the long term not quick fix so to set huge targets would just make me totally food obsessed and demoralised if I fail. Every reduction even a 1/4lb is a success:T :T :T :T . As for WW & SW targets......HA!!!!! I'm aiming at BMI 25, but if I reach a point above where I stick then fine. At my age !?5 I do not want to look like a bag of bones. Even in my 20's I look at photo's and think 'my goodness I looked skinny, not healthy', I was so desperate to be thin I joined a slimming club and became bulmic (before I'd even heard of the word, thought it was just me). Never again:mad: .
Don't know whats happening with the electrics round here. DD arrived last night with trays of frozen food to go in our freezer, as hers had gone off and this morning my BM hadn't mixed the doe before trying to prove it:eek: . Had to dig out the Kenwood, mix it and put it back in BM. Heaven knows how it'll turn out. So looking forward to fresh multi grain bread with butter and 1/2 tin of baked beans. Fingers crossed!
While I remember, have given up sweeteners and DH is doing the same, thank you girls for all the info:T . Have an unopened new pack which will be returned to Smarket this week. Keep all receipts (what an anorak!) as I itemise all spending in Quicken program. Can be frightening to see how much is spent in a year:eek:  .
Off now to get dressed and see how the bread is doing!"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life, gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." Unknown0 -
morning all
have been feeling rotten yesterday and this morning. DS appears to have brought home a lovely sickness bug. altho he's only been s*ck twice and aside from that hes tearing around like normalwhereas i spent the night with my head in the loo
so no dinner for me last night and i think my lunch evacuatednothing much so far today, tested out a couple of slices of toast just now with very skinny bit of butter.
cant decide now if i still feel ill or if its because i haven't eaten
food for today - i have no idea, depends how i feel. probably not much.
well done all the losers :j :j :T :T

Hi All
Well done on the weight losses Jane, Home Alone, Kune Kune and Girl LLT. Hope I haven't missed anyone. Keep up the good work.
Well, it has rained on and off most of the day but we made the most of the sunny spots and went out regardless. I must have burned quite a few calories as we climbed the Rock of Gibraltar up to the Apes Den and walked down again. plus walking through Gibraltar from the car park both ways.
We then went and had a drink and shared a plate of chips and came home. As we were on our way home the sun came out so OH suggested dropping DD and I off so we could walk along the beach. 15 minutes after we set off the heavens opened and we got drenched!! However, we were committed at this point so carried on and after another 15 minutes the sun returned. The whole walk took us around an hour so with all the walking this morning as well I think I deserved the piece of baguette with HM chicken liver pate I succumbed to on our return.
B: Muesli mixed with fruit and fibre, raisins and skimmed milk. Pineapple juice.
L: 2 Cokes, 1/3 plate of chips
Snack: 1/3 baguette with HM chicken liver pate.Pork with cream and mushrooms, green beans, new potatoes. Raspberry yoghurt.
