I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of what to put in dishes to replace garlic other than mixed herbs. My DH goes mad if i so much as look at a clove of garlic and most dishes need a bit of something to give it flavor. I take odourless garlic capsules instead so I dont miss out on the health benefits!;)
Depends what kind of dish it is - if it's tomato based then I usually add some worcs sauce, or soy sauce. Sometimes I use a bit of mustard. Sometimes I use a bit of paprika/cumin or something to give it a liftworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Hi everyone- ooo a new thread thanks GR:A
I normally have problems with being so sedentary at work, and I work in the middle of nowhere, but today found I could walk to the nearest pub in 15 mins (taking my life in my hands as country lanes no pavements blind bends etc) so walk there and back and half hour for a little bevy (only tonic water) today I had soup too but the bread it came with was huge and I love bread so maybe next time I'll eat my lunch at the desk and just walk for a tonic:D
Feels good getting a bit of sun on my face even if only for 30mins.
B toast & marmalade x 2
L tomato & basil soup + huge baguette
D mince and pots random veg
Weigh in tomorrow very nervous:cool:0 -
Hi All,
Still cold and very windy here so no exercise to speak of. I really miss our walks but we do have a lot to get ready for the visitors arriving too.
I've been experimenting with baking in the microwave today as still can't use the new combination microwave oven as the glass plate not arrived yet. I tried making scones as I do them a lot at home but they haven't really worked. I don't have scales but am quite happy cooking without them so the mixture was fine. I then tried putting them in the microwave on medium for 4 minutes but they have totally flattened and spread into one large round. They also seem a bit crumbly but I can always turn them into some sort of pudding.
I've also cooked 2 chicken breasts in the microwave and then sliced to make filled baguettes as I know from experience that OH's children (well, young adults) will tell us they are hungry as soon as they are in the car and ask if we can stop for a takeaway. We shall give them both a hearty chicken baguette sandwich which should last them the 2 hour journey home. Also got a large bar of Lidl's chocolate each (33 cents each).
Meals today.
Breakfast: Muesli with skimmed milk and raisins. Pineapple juice.
Lunch: Pitta bread with a burger in it. Banana.
Tea: Chicken and tomato baguette. Orange.
Snack: 2 rows of Lidl milk chocolate.
Good luck with all the weigh ins everyone. I am hoping to get into Gibraltar to have mine tomorrow and hope the extra lb that came with TOTM last week has vanished, hopefully with a bit more.

Feeling a bit crappy about things at the moment. I had a smoothie and oat biscuits this morning but had a salad at lunch filled with pasta and mayo and 2 onion bhajis, then 4 mini creme eggs.
The problem I have is that I try to maintain a healthy diet without following a strict plan, plans I have followed havent kept the weight off anyway. I dont have scales which means progress is all about how I feel and in some ways more affected by self esteem maybe. I never seem to have 2 weeks without a glitch, its either a social thing where I have little choice, or something at work (like today) which means I have to get food out.
My only saving grace was I think what I had was still better than macdonalds which was my other choice.
I think due to my lifestyle all I can do is try my very best on the days I do have that are stable and try to choose the better options on the other ocassions.
I hope that blurb makes sense, ill be having a bad day again on friday with my valentines meal being full of cream then theres the cinema at the weekend.
As for tonight ive defrosted a chicken burger and I wish I hadnt now as I dontknow what to do with it really. I suppose ill grab a salad to have with it to save cooking any potatoes.
Its very frustrating all this and to top it all my soup was not very nice at all as the celeriac was too strong, I only put a small amount in!0 -
I know I've posted more than once on here today... but would like to ask a question...
Now that I am only 1lb away from my goal... I'm thinking maybe I should aim to lose an extra half a stone. Does that seem an unhealthy attitude to weight loss?? Most of my clothes are too big as it is, but I know I'm still eating some stuff I shouldn't really be and feel if I cut these out, I think I would lose a bit more. That would still be well within the "healthy" range BMI too
I have been 2 stone heavier than now - my heaviest in July last year.
I have been 2 stone lighter than now - my lightest and probably not very healthy some years ago.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Hi all,
Another day, up early, had small helping of muesli with apricots, raisins and dried cranberries added. Felt nauseous later on, having passed our local land fill which was really humming this morning, worst I've ever smelt...went back to bed for a couple of hours and woke feeling better, not completely ok but much better...not too hungry so just had an onion and parmesan sandwich...tastes very good and am amazed at how far a little parmesan stretches since I bought the plastic cheese grater in Lidl.
Dinner is bacon with cabbage, turnip, carrots and mash.
Welcome to all the newbies, congratulations to all the losers and to the rest...we'll just keep plodding along, doing our best...that even includes you Frogga!

I've just weighed my self
I have lost 2-3lbs since Saturday, maybe this is because my visiter arrived on Saturday but yayyy.
Sorry I could wait to weigh my self and tellyou guys.
Just goes to show even if you eat little and often really does help and giving in to treats too, never ban your self from anything:D . And as my girls night out dress looks a little better on me I'm going to keep it, my mother and I are going clubbing in 2 weeks lol.......hum seems a good time to waer it if I keep on going the way I am lol.
OK OK I'll shut up now sorry to go lol.;)Grocery Challenge. £400. - £35.22 + £19.80 + £109.01 = £164.03
Other spends (Clothes Luxuries etc)£11.97 + £1.19 + £7.36 + £69.00 + £38.50 + £5.50 + £23.00 +£2.00 = £158.52:shocked::sad:0 -
Hi everyone,
Hope you are all doing well.
So far, I have been really really good.
For breakfast I had frosties with semi skimmed milk & tea
For Lunch I had a yogurt (was too busy to have anything else)
Snack Muller light yogurt drink.
For dinner i will have fish in a cheese sauce (it is a ready made meal, but, Im trying to get rid of them from the freezer before I attempt to make this myself), along with a slice of bread and a big helping of mixed veg.
later I might have an apple.
Although I havent had alot to eat, im not feeling too hungry.
Im really pleased with myself because usually, by this time of day ive already had ahem erm erm 2 or 3 bars of chocolate.
At work today I resisted going to get a kit kat for my morning coffee, and when I went to Dads to pick up LO, i resisted a bounty (my favourite). Im hoping I can go until the weekend before I have any chocolate, cos I know I will never ever ever not be able to stop eating chocolate altogether. AT nights are difficult, so, if I feel the chocci craving coming on, I will have a low cal hot chocolate drink (I have a turkish delight flavoured one in)mmm.
Well done to everyone, and keep focused, and remember and tell yourself
YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Evening all
Lovely new thread.... dinner way yummy prawns salad n steamed potatoes mmmmm
Woohoo frogga..glad you are soooo enthusiastic n focussed:j
Well done queenpig :T
Glad you are feeling better Marie,
Newlywed ...
I don't think it an unhealthy thing to do at all... after all, just because the ideal weight for one person is say 10st...it doesn't mean that it would suit everyone of the same height:rolleyes: ... im aiming for 10st 7lbs to start with as i know that its within the "healthy" weight range for my height 5ft5" but WHEN...not IF i get there i will see how i look and feel and if need be I will move my target,
You will know when you are at a weight that you want to be
Boo81...
I think that is a great idea... you can't let what you can and can't eat rule your life... so as you say -Make the most of those days where you can have total control of your meals, then when you are out and about or with friends etc -just try and make sensible choices (there's still room for treats)and i bet you will be fine... plus you won't get pigged off at "going without" or turning down invitations simply because of the food on offer, which means sticking with the healthier eating should be easier
RoseWood ..nice one.. pre-empting the "can we have a take away" :T ... I know when we go back to the UK to visit BIL + SIL i pack up food n drink for travelling -saving a fortune and a whole load of empty cals.. and i take food with us for at least the day we get there..as there is very rarely anything in..which will mean TAKE AWAY..and im not even much of a fan of them
Hope the good weather returns for you -so you can get out and about again
Saversarn ...what a lovely way to break up your lunch break :T ... extra exercise and some fresh air
Hi Aaroncaz and welcome on boardwell done on the loss so far :T
Don't worry BigMummaF ..if you hadn't found us -we would have sent out a search party -can't have one of us missing can we
You can use the cheese sauce recipe i posted earlier with the cauli cheese.... but also if you are just wanting to do a light sauce for tossing pasta in, or over chicken/veg etc.. you can actually tip some cream cheese into a small pan and blend in a little skimmed milk and warm over a gentle heat until its smooth-I do this quite often-especially with the garlic n herb one mmmmm -Oh and you can do it in a bowl and just zap in the micro for about 30seconds at a time until ready
Cheerfulness.... Well done on the shrinking dress sizes :T and boo hiss to insensitive sonI have had those sizes too -so you aren't on your own
-in fact i had loads for my jollies to Kefalonia last year -and being a loon i though OK it will be hot -so get 1 size bigger than you want so its comfy ..and never wore most of them as they were a bit too big and a far to warm
but i loved them when i got them  ....but now they have to go
right another recipe..and 1 of my faves nom nom nom
