    1) I'm really fed up with eating hessian. High fibre is all very well, but you need sugar to make it interesting...

Have you tried Wheatgerm with muesli?

I find it has a natural sweetness and doesn't need any sugar whereas Weetabix and Porridge does.

I haven't had any breakfast as I woke up a bit late and had to be at the hairdressers for 9, so I am looking forward to my lunch. I am going to make a big salad with cold chicken and won't have any bread to try and keep the carbs down. Not all carbs are equal! Not having bread with the chicken is a good idea, as it is a fast release carbohydrate. THink "slow carbs" rather than "low carbs". some beans of some description. Some brown rice? Lemon dressing or a little oil and vinegar dressing is good, as the acid helps slow the carb release, or so I understand. This should help you to feel full for longer.

Dinner tonight will probably be roast chicken and veggies, followed by sf jelly and yoghurt - or I might do the yoghurt with options thingie.

I spent alot of time thinking about the weight loss surgery thing last night and in the end I e-mailed the surgeon and said that I wasn't ready, at this time, to have a gastric bypass operation. (Wise decision.... not necessarily not to have the op, but if you aren't ready or not sure, then best to wait or leave it)I know that being overweight brings health problems and is ultimately life limiting and I have kids to consider, but that is a vastly different concept to grapple with than having elective major plus surgery with a real mortality rate, however small. Not forgetting the £10,900 cost as well! The op could bring it's own health problems, such as not being able to eat food/eat normally for the rest of your life.

Anyway on with the OS eating and smaller portions! I am trying this week and next to concentrate on just eating healthily as poss at mealtimes (without eating anything in between Don't discount snacks altogether, they can aid your even blood sugar if you have the right snacks and in the right amounts, but you DO need to take a bit off your portion sizes at meal times if you are going to do this. Some folks -eg MIL can go all day and then have a massive meal at night, I can't do that. I'm happier eating 3 meals and 2 snacks), without doing too much about the portion size, and once I get that under control I will start cutting down on the amounts. I think trying to eliminate the erratic eating AND reducing portions is probably too much and will result in failure so I am going really really slowly this time, in the hope that I will see sustainable changes. I'm trying not to do too much at once, I'm trying to get into regular eating, regular official snacks and cut out quite a lot of wheat. At the moment I'm happy to have a sensible eating plan without between meal binges (these are different to snacks! lol!) in an attempt to have an even blood sugar level. I think if I can do that then I will reduce the amount I eat and make slightly different choices so that I can take some weight off. I don't have huge amounts to lose really, but it's the lack of control and knowing that I could end up in a bad way if I take my eye off the ball for too long!

I'm going to be away from home for a week as of Thursday, working at a youth music festival. Meals are always irregular, so need to get together some snack things that I can have in my bag/hotel room for when I need them. Will largely be in town, so shops will be accessible, but I need a plan. There's always tempting stuff around when I get my lunch, coffeee (on expenses he heeeee heeeeee, M&S, Starbucks and Costa here I come!") so need to have a plan and a sensible snack in my bag. Any ideas?

    Hya folks

Had my WI this morning (a day late), and I have put on 1 pound .

I suppose it could have been worse as I was mooching around the house feeling sorry for myself on Thursday and Friday and eating everything in sight...I do NOT recommend taking 4x400mg of Ibuprofen a day...leaves you dolally..and very hungry!

I was taking all this medication to help reduce inflammation around my jaw joint which has been agony since Wednesday. The pain is easing slowly, and a took a "normal" dose of Ibuprofen this morning so I could concentrate at a set of workshops at College (for my PTLLS course). Back to a double dose at lunch time as the pain is really bad again..so now my head is spinning! Oh well, hopefully it will ease off soon.

Must go and lie down as unable to think very straight...taking ages to type this and do all the corrections!

Have a great, if soggy, weekend!

    M

    Hi All,

It's been a quiet day today. The stomach ache isn't too bad but I feel quite sleepy for some reason so we haven't been for our walk - I couldn't summon up enough energy to persuade OH into it. Just done the supermarket shopping at Lidl for the week (38 euros) and not a lot else.

    B: Muesli etc. Pineapple juice.
L: Last of the HM tomato and basil soup. Piece of home baked baguette. Banana.
D: Egg and chips (burger for OH) with mushrooms. Raspberry yoghurt. I quite enjoyed it frozen last time so may dish out a small portion and stick it in the freezer.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

    Hiya,

perhaps some dried fruit and seeds/nuts etc. if you carry a sensible portion around in your bag you can always grab a yoghurt from M&S (or if your room has minibar, empty it and keep yoghurts in there??) and add these too it. i find this a lifesaver when im busy as it only takes seconds.

i wouldnt go into starbucks or costa if i were you, i always get tempted by the paninis!!!! :D a lot of sandwich places do soup and rolls now too which may help.

    good luck anyway. :D

    Evening all,

MrsMc - "A right grotty pile." Is that the welcome poor ole hubby got after spending a week sleeping in a muddy hole????? Not to mention being banished to the basement to get hosed down before getting his slippers on. :p Mind, you don't want him making you a cuppa with mucky paws, do you? Oh and not forgetting no lay- in this morning because you had him hot footing off to nap your tent pegs for the market garden out back. :rotfl: :D
Kidding, bet you've been spoiling him as much as he does you. ;)

Well done to all the losers and (as someone so rightly said) those that may have stood still or had a gain, for just keeping on trying. We'll all get there in the end.

Droopydrawers - you're right.. that 1lb felt almost as good as all the others put together. Like the idea that I'm 'in my teens' again. :D

Recovering - I think you've devised a good plan there. The slowly slowly method works best for me and I do agree that its easy to fall flat on your face if you try and change too much too quickly.
I've not read any of the Paul Mckenna stuff but I was listening to him on QVC for an hour the other morning and he likened it to riding a bike. To begin you wobble a bit and come off but gradually you fall off less and eventually stop wobbling and then you're away... with only the rare accident that anyone could have. Liked that. :D

Right back to watching Transformers dvd with hubby. Do love my movies.
Oh and glad that you seem to be getting a little better Rose wood. :)

Nite nite and be good everyone. ;)

Hello - I've just found you!
I'm a regular on the Grocery Challenges but have never popped in here.
I woudl like to lose about a stone in the three months between now and my holidays in mid June. I'm not sure what I weigh now but a couple of weeks ago I was around 10st 6 ish and I'm 5'4''.
I'm not huge but would like to be a bit trimmer and feel healthier. I have a dog that I walk every day (when I'm not working away) but its quite gentle exercise and I do it all of the time so I'll have to step up the activity levels a bit to help spur the weight loss on.
I'm away in the States until Weds morning and its impossible to diet here while living in a hotel so I'm resolving to start in earnest on Weds when I get back - good opportunity really as I have to go food shopping then so will start as I mean to go on.
I'll weigh in on Weds/Thurs and report back with the news and my target.

Hope its OK if I just join in?
    Have a good night
    Rachel.

    mhe...spicy bread??

    Welcome back Taplady

Have been reasonably good to-day food wise....had 3 pears, piece of banana, 5 dried apricots, 5 or 6 prunes, 5 dates, lots of cabbage, small helping ham and mash, 3 bowls soup and one slice weetabix cake with butter, couple pints water, one cup coffee.

    Night all,

    Marie
