    It's a deal :j
I am completely with you! I managed to be debt free within a year but also managed in a 'glimpse of an eye' to whack up another £ 3500 within the last 4 month:eek: . Okay, my house needed new windows and the i got a deal for 12 months interest free and my credit card is interest free for another year....but that's not the best excuse though, is it? Just when my long forgotten sleepless nights appeared again, I got myself a second job which will only take
6 hours a week and with that the windows and hopefully most of the credit card will be paid off by December 08:rolleyes: And I will also try to get PPI back on my already paid-off loan- all quite scary though...But thanks to your story and all the others on this side I'll get there and the best is I don't feel alone ....but I do feel ashamed!
Thanks to all of you to get me back on track!
    Love,
    Lotta xx:A

You may just need to look further into why you're feeling the need to spend money. Are they things you could live without? Is not having tem detrimental to your health and well being?

You are totally right of course. I didn't need any of it (not need in the true sense of the word). All completely psychological .. dreading going back to work and needed to be cheered up.

Right - this week's resolution is to stop beating myself up about what I've done in the past and to accept the fact that I actually enjoy my job (normally) and am very grateful that my DH will look after the children. Final resolution ... to stick to the budget for the whole week. If I can do that, perhaps I might be able to do it for longer too.

Good luck everyone else this week too!
  • It's very interesting to see everyone's posts about slipping and stuff - I do it too, both with budgeting and dieting.

I think it's trying to avoid the all or nothing thing that's important for me, I can't budget so tightly that I can buy nothing - because I don't actually have to yet - as long as I do keep within a reasonable budget. I think I need to look at my figures again and see what I can budget for "pocket money" each week, because I'm definitely doing better when I know I've got money I'm allowed to spend slightly frivolously - I think I need to, so I don't have an "s*d it" moment and overspend over what I can afford. If that adds 6 months to my DFD then so be it, I know myself well enough to know that otherwise I'll be adding 18months or more.

I still don't need to buy crap though, and I'll still be here, not doing it. I just need to re-define what - to me - crap is :). (I'm thinking DVDs I won't watch, magazines I'll hardly read, canteen food and designer coffee :D)

I'm in a humph today, I tried to pay £450 (overtime, counciltax free month and cutback savings :T ) off my visa card today, and they said they could only take £100 over the phone because my card wasn't registered  , so I did, and I'll have to find my cheque book at home and send them £350 tommorrow.

Does not spending on plastic because they've annoyed you so much you could scream, count?

I still have my £10 "pocket money" for treats tommorrow - food stuffs from the farmers market are food budget, treats, breakfast out and coffee are pocket money :D . You can usually get loads of nice wee things, too.

    Heyyy :)

Sorry guys i was absent for so long (yes, it feels long, three whole days!!!!! actually 4) Maggie how did sunday go? tell us what you bought, i personally NEED to indulge in some shopping thoughts, even if it was somebody else's shopping.
And yes, it DOES COUNT! well done, I wish my amex could make me feel so annoyed that i would not want to use it, but since i used it so much, they kind of treat me like a VIP client, so i cant complain.... :rotfl:

  • Well, I still seem to be failing miserably.

Noooo!!! there is no failure here, just lessons. If you learn from your mistake, it's not a mistake really, a wise man once said (I think :j)

How could I NOT buy 2 pairs of shoes? So I did.

:rotfl:give me your address. I will turn up with a pair of scissors and sort out your credit cards once and for all.

Then went to IKEA. Always a nightmare for us. Bought very MSE drinks (free with a family card) - and DH and I are dieting so we only had a banana each (50p in total) and then orange juice and chocolate for DS. Then we spent £120 in IKEA on the soft drawer closers for the kitchen DH put in last year. Dur.

Do you need it? Absolutely totally need it? If not, can you return it? Can you return it anyway and get a cheaper one?

Final confession ... bought DH a combi oven/microwave thingy. He's a stay-at-home Dad and I go back to work on Monday after 7 months' off on Maternity Leave :( . Bought it as cheap as I could - but it was still £219.

Again - is it absolutely needed? Can't you get something cheaper that would be similar? Maybe not as nice looking, maybe an older design, but fit for the purpose? Can't you get it used?

I think there's no hope for me ...

Yes there is hope! At least you admit your mistakes and confront them. That's the hardest step. Just think about if you can rectify these, if not, at least commit yourself not to do it again :):) chin up :)

This is such a wonderful idea. Let's do our "crap list". So far we have

    DVDs
    magazines
    canteen food
    designer coffee...

    I'll add
    diet coke
    chewing gum
empty notebooks i will never use but so beautiful
bracelets - i always buy them but never wear as uncomfortable... and buy them knowing i would never wear.. whats wrong with me
picture frames i won't use as my room flooded with picture frames but they just so pretty
decleor moisturiser for £35 when a £4 boots one would do
dinners in my fave lebanese when i cant afford
    diaries i'll never use
    tank tops
