There is an ad in this months Trader magazine for someone who says he can supply novels for £1 each or non-fiction for £2 each - only gives a phone number (no web site) and I know nothing else about them/him but if you want their phone number pm me (and let me know what their minimum order is if you do phone). Disclaimer: I have no connection with or experience of this supplier - just noticed the ad and remembered this thread so do your own due diligence etc..

Bah! I just got bad feedback from a buyer whinging about my "expensive" postage costs  I sent her a polite email explaining that the costs are set by Amazon and not my decision. Miserable witch. I consistently undercut the cheapest prices anywhere and she's quibbling about a few coppers on the postage. If you send a hardback book first class you don't get much change out of the postage allowance.

Anyway, rant over - I checked the Amazon forum and I believe that if you get unfair feedback about the postage charges, Amazon will remove it for you.

It is possible to leave feedback about your buyers, but since sellers can't realistically refuse to trade the feedback doesn't offer us much protection.
  • That's a pain - a witch indeed - I'm pleased that you can get it removed, it doesn't make Amazon look good at all.
  • There is going to be a change to postage costs (a year away but for anyone planning on doing this long term) - see discussion on Ebay Board. Will make it harder to take even decent pin money out of even pre-owned books let alone make a profit on anything bought to sell:

  • Yes, I've had a look and a shudder, I think the only good thing to say is that everyone will be in the same boat
  • Sorry, I haven't had chance yet to read through this thread as it's sooooo long, but I've never considered either buying or selling from the Amazon marketplace for some reason. I buy from Ebay occasionally, more in the past than present, and have sold a few things a year or so ago too, with more planned when I get around to listing them!

It's rare that I ever part with books once I've bought them, but I do have several that I've decided to sell ... mainly text books that I bought for an OU course I started a couple of years ago but never continued, and the books are likely to go out of date or be re-printed before I'm in a position to resume it, if ever!

Would I be better off advertising them on Amazon rather than Ebay do you think? ... and is it easy to do?

I'll try to find time to read the thread properly at some point, but any quick useful tips would be good! :)

  • Hi C_Q

The best way to decide what's best is to go on the Amazon site and search your text books by name or ISBN number (usually on the back of the book) and see what everyone else is asking for the books, make a mental note then look on ebay to see if you can see them there on completed listings then decide which looks to be getting the most return.

The thing with Amazon is that there is no charge to list the books for as long as you like, and no photo needed either so you could list them tonight if you wanted to.

if you decide that Amazon is the way to go then I think that you should read the OP as it has all the info you need to get going, which isn't a lot really! but you need to be careful with heavy books as you can wipe out your takings if you don't weigh them first.
