Well, I got the new charges through the post and I am stunned at the outrageous prices that will come in from next year.
I sell underwear and sending a bra is going to go up from 46/64/79p to 94/119/206. I an slowly coming to terms with the fact that this time next year it looks like I'll have no business unless someone comes along and offers a better rate - who is going to pay £2.50 for a bra to be sent within the UK?? I am stunned and gutted - as well of course as being utterly p***ed off that the Royal Mail are forcing me away from home business. I choose to work from home so I can bring up my children (both of whom are under 3). I will have 2 choices, get a childminder and go out to work or give up work and have very little money to speak of.
Well, don't take my word for it - judge for yourselves.....

You will need to look under the 'More Information' section and then click 'here' for details on the postage rates. Sellers, prepare to be shocked, buyers, I wouldn't bother, I'll be off to the shops instead I guess!! Oh, and the biggest parcel you can send is 750g!!

The minimum packet will be 94p first class..eek.
Basically it looks like for sellers selling light items only sell them up to 100g in weight and send them as letters, forget anything just over 100g as the price shoots up. I'm going to have to have a good look at these figures as it looks like my items will fall into the 'forget it' range as well.
EDIT: Oh I see there is a maximum depth for a letter of 25mm which as blue_money says means virtually everything will have to go as a package with a minimum first class rate of 94p.

Yep. I could not believe it when I actually read the leaflet. Laughable that it states 'we want to ensure the way mail is prices is fair to both you and us'. This will have an impact on so many sellers and businesses. I have a lingerie website as well as eBay, I am more angry that the RM are forcing me out of business because the reality is that people are not going to pay these charges, are they.
Can anyone else offer and opinion? As a buyer would you pay these charges?

it does NOT seem fairer!?!
having said that my DH is a photographer and sending cd's etc will be a bit cheaper.
we ebay sellers will have to become EXPERT clothes folders!Every day above ground is a good one0 -
I can't say that I've read every word of the information so apologies if I missed it - how would the parcels /packages be measured at the PO counter? it sounds like long queues to me....0

It's going to hit every Ebay seller and even the company itself as I wouldn't be surprised if some sections of it will lose sales! What about other companies will we see a price hike due to the increased cost of sending stuff?
Food for thought!Waddle you do eh?0 -

I think that you are right with this, there will be 5mm slots and 25 mm slots and customers squashing the padded envelopes through them and hoping that they don't get stuck halfway0 -
There are some almost unbelievable price reductions in the chart.
Weight is the main factor in the present system.
Weight and size are the main factors in the new system
Distance still does not seem to matter.
Ir is quite possible that the changes are revenue neutral taken as a whole.
Some winners some losers in a fairer system.
It is well known that money is lost on the first and second class letters
at present and the higher price for larger letters will reduce this loss................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0 -
The new stlye of pricing is absolutely shocking! For anyone sending a larger item than a simpe envelope the price will be huge. I think this is an absolutely stupid idea, perhaps we should use some majority influence as regular customers of the Royal Mail and tell them we don't like the idea of this new scheme....
I think it will be another Consignia type success....it's just greedy and daft!Stuff Happens As Wave of Ambiguity Spreads:cool:0 -
Some people buy on ebay regardless of cost of postage so maybe it might not hit as hard as we think?
