Try
ipconfig /release
Then:
ipconfig /renew
Make sure there is a space between ipconfig and the /
Or do you see the 2 terminal/television screens in the bottom right of your laptop near the clock?? Is there a Yellow exclamation mark there? Right click it and hit REPAIR
You also mentioned you have another laptop - is this wirelessly connected to the internet connection too?
If so, go to the CMD and do an IPCONFIG/ALL and tell me the stuff you see under:

The problem is definately this:

To give you the basics this a windows IP address and not one given out by your router.
Do you have like an IM client - i can get you type you thru this in real time before i shoot off.0 -

Put your wireless key in again. if you don't know it you'll have to wire up to the router (does it work wired?), and goto http://192.168.1.1

stupid laptop still not fixed was on till half one this morning!
tried a wired connection and it didnt work
going to my sisters to try her wireless later

I'd try to sort out the wired first, plug it in, do
start, run, cmd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig

been to my sisters tonight to see if it was just our router and it wouldnt connect so i guess its the laptop we've done everything we can i guess the laptop is going back to acer.
