ive started doing a system restore and put the WLAN back on hopefully it works AVG didnt find anything so i guessing thats a lie lol. I cant remember if we have the disks i'll have to look upstairs if not could i download it from somewhere onto a cd and put it on that way?

I knew this would be the place to come you lot are great :)

If it's AVG anti virus then it may not pick up any spyware anyway. There is a free AVG anti spyware program although I think superantispyware is better. Without knowing whether what was downloaded was something very dodgy or not it's impossible to say whether to expect it to simply be something that went wrong in the installation/setting or whether it was genuinely something malicious.

  • it was a game off tiscali's website by a company called big fish, as soon as she clicked the buy now button all the webpages she had open closed and she got kicked off the internet and its never worked since so i dont think it was malicious or anything.

Ive done a full system restore and its not made a difference :(
  • ive burned the superanti spyware to a disk and now got it running on my mums laptop hopefully it finds something if not what else can i do? :(

Full reinstall as I mentioned is the last resort. Before that is simply repairing windows but that still requires your windows/recovery cd.

  • Ive clicked on the network advisor and it says

    Event
    1. ping loopback address failed!

    Possible cause
1.the TCP driver is corrupted the networking adapter is not working or another service is interfering with the IP

    Possible solution

    1. check that your TCP/IP drver and network card are installed correctly.

    2. Please reboot your computer

    3. if rebooting the computer still does not solve the problem please contact a qualified IT professional.

does this make sense to anyone?

the antispyware has finished now and its come up with no harmful things found :( this is really getting to me now :(

The laptop probably has a recovery partition, if you post the make and model someone may be able to tell you how to restore the laptop from the recovery partition.
