BMI scales from experience are a load of nonsense, they expext people to be the archytypal bodyshape which we are all not, if someone, like myself, is not on the tall side (5ft 7/8ish) and also always wide built even when i was a long distance runner competing at national levels (hard to imagine now, but the medals are proof!) then the bmi scales arent nice to read.

when i got more into the rugby than the running i obviously built up a good bit more muscle and that equalled a big weight gain, i was always heavy but fit, when competing in the long distance runs and doing marathon fun runs and relays as i was too young for a full marathon, i was at around 13st and that was when i was age 12-15!! now im 20 and still at the rugby and at 15 and a half stone!! that puts me on the bmi scale as being 34.1 which is well into the obesity levels!! when in reality if i lost the fat layers i would still be 15st and my bmi would be 32.9!! still in the obese section!! but i would more than likely be fitter and healthier if i was able to loose the half stone than i have been in years!!

also in relation to the fact that i use dto be a runner, im signing up with a few friends for the marathon relay this year!! were raising funds for the football think in another thread i started, but i twill also give me something to work towards, i want to be able to run 7 miles in one hour this year as my target for may and for next year i want to finish the full marathon!!!!!
  • Just dropping by to say I finally made my first stone off!!! WI tonight at Slimming World. Considering I've been messing around with this since August I'm delighted.

    How's everyone else doing?

ps Drew take your point about BMI but I do think it's different for people who are very athletic, the index is by and large a good guideline for 'normal' people :)

Wow that's brilliant belfastgirl! You must be sooo pleased - well done! :j Bet you feel the difference in your clothes.

(I'm staying at a steady weight but haven't been trying so ok with that. Will come out of lurking mode when I get into this more seriously & have something to say!)

I've been ok foodwise this week, have also been doing lots of squats. I'm going to do plenty of exercise this weekend (got a loan of an exercise DVD ha ha) and am hoping for a good WI on Sunday morning!

Which exercise DVD did you get tara? Just noticed in Xtravision today that they rent out the wii workout games - thinking that maybe renting one for a week might be more of an incentive to USE it... Mind you - quite pleased with the treadmill as I can just hop on for 15 mins in between doing other things, so I have actually been using it!

And 1lb off this week so I'm now UNDER 11 st for the first time in ages... 10st 13lb, but still I'm really pleased!! Anybody else using WW online? I must've set my goal as 7lb off, and I only meant that to be the first goal and I can't see where to change it.

    Have a good weekend x

Davina McCall, it's meant to be really good. I have never used one before. I have found lots of great exercise vids online but there isn't enough space in front of our computer desk to do a routine.

Well done on getting under 11 stone!!! I had a sneaky WI today, 1lb off since Tuesday - but official WI is on Monday so I won't count my chickens yet.

Not sure how you can reset your goals but the ladies on thr WW support thread may be able to help you xo

  • Yay netskii well done, I'm looking forward to that moment as well. And well done on the sneaky 1lb tara!

Not a fan of the whole video thing myself, can't get on with doing stuff in the house, find it a lot easier to go to the gym :) but that's just personal preference.

Trying to have a sensible weekend but not quite managing it so far. Gotta do some exercise tomorrow!

Hope you all get on well.
