Desperatley NEED to lose a stone!!

Nicki, good point although I'm not sure it is necessary to advise a GP unless the OP indicates she has an issue. Advocating sensible eating shouldn't do any harm and noone has suggested further cutting calories. GP can help if there is an underlying issue which I would be concerned about for anyone not losing weight on a restricted calorie diet but if you are overweight and dieting it is unlikely you need the help of a GP for dieting and exercise advice alone.
It would be useful for the OP to let us know what the position is and also, why a week?

dawnylou (((HUGS))) Even by my poor eating standards to lose a stone in a week is very wrong. Why must you lose this much so quickly?
Have you thought about the special K diet? I think it's drop 2 dress sizes in 2 weeks. Although I'm not sure what weight loss that equates to.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Woohoo! I'm normal! Gotta go tell the cat.0 -
I think a dress size is half a stone. However I yo-yo around, putting on and taking off half a stone at regular intervals, and haven't noticed the loss of a dress size. But maybe it would show more if I was smaller to start with.
At the moment, I'm half-way through the No Diet Diet, and honestly, the book talks a lot of sense. I've lost 4-5 lb in two weeks without fretting about food or exercise. That's not to say I've given no thought to what I eat, although I haven't radically changed what I eat, or to say I've taken no exercise, although mine is limited to walking. You have got to be prepared to 'Do Something Different', but some of it's been quite good fun!
Look for it on Amazon, or get it through your local library, and see what you make of it. Also, if you're going to WeightWatchers, talk to your group leader, I thought going up and down was not uncommon anyway. Another thought is time of the month!
But please, whatever you do, forget all thought of losing a stone in a week!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Jo_R - Other than the walking I am doing a workout DVD on avergae every other day.
Maybe it's the fact that my sleeping pattern is a little erratic that I am unable to lose weight then?
Soubrette - I do allow treats. For example I might have a glass of wine with my meal on a Friday night. Or I might make some home made chips or a home made hot choccie. Wow a whole dress size from a corset?? I wear corsets to go out in, but not the type that is strong enough to pull any of me in!! :rotfl:
No unwanted limbs - plenty of unwanted fat though!(Can't just chop it off though - scared of pain!)
Tinkerbell84 - I tried Atkins but it made me feel quite ill so I'm not sure about trying to go down that route again.
Sola - I really am not sure of calories - the amount needed, amount to burn, amount in foods...I have used points for so long this is like a foreign language!! I couldn't tell you how many calories was in an item unless it was packaged!! I like to cook from scratch and would struggle a lot to calculate how many calories were in my meals.
Ailuro2 - I was 10stone 2 last Monday - but am only 5 foot 5.
I have huge problem areas though - my thighs are so big they almost rub together when I walk and I actually look pregnant my tummy is so big and rounded!! It is so embarrassing. And upsetting!
There will be a dress next year we hope - but I want to lose my weight well in advance so that I don't cause problems with dress fittings and so that by the time the big day arrives I am healthy and in best condition.
Thank you for the pointers on how much of each food to serve! I will certainly bear that in mind! I think I do probably need to fit more 'proper' exercise in rather than walking. Maybe I would be better doing a DVD every day a week?
Haylibo - What do you mean by stimulants? More info would be great!
GI & GL diets and the type really confuse meI know - so easily done!!
Nicky - I have given my height and weight above. I do not have an eating disorder, I am just looking for a 'boost'. I don't eat tiny amounts of food either!! Part of my problem is probably that I eat too much! But I can't get my portion sizes down any more without causing me to be hungry.
I saw a nurse who was quite unhelpful and just suggested I eat more fibre. For a while I worked hard at making sure I got extra fibre - but still I saw no difference.
Hi Razorbladekisses!!!
I wasn't sure about the cereal diet because I thought that would leave me hungry a lot of the time. Also by having cereal as 2 meals would that not mean I would not get enough fruit and veg which would actually be needed to help my weight loss??
(See I'm think!! lol)
Savvy_Sue - I will have a look and see what info I can find on that diet.
Oh yes - my period is due so does that mean tomorrow I still may have gained weight?
Thank you for the tips
I am so nervous of getting on the scales tomorrow!!Dream of being mortgage free....

Low GI diets really are awesome! I wasn't too great with WW and stuff, but i've found i'm hardly hungry on these. I'd advise getting a good book, but in the meantime a quick google brought up an article with these suggestions:Low GI breakfasts
Add sliced fruit to whole grain breakfast flakes.
Milkshake made from semi-skimmed milk and fresh fruit.
Fruit such as peaches and raspberries, sliced and mixed with low fat natural yogurt.
Porridge with raisins.
Mixed grain bread with avocado or Marmite.
Low GI lunches
Flatbread with houmous and tomatoes.
Fresh fruit salad with natural low fat yogurt.
Green salad with cooked pulses and whole grain bread.
Jacket potato with baked beans and a sprinkle of cheese.
Low GI suppers
Spaghetti Bolognese served with a green salad.
Stir-fried chicken breast with mixed green vegetables and noodles.
Grilled steak with new potatoes, sweetcorn and peas.
Spicy dahl with rice and chutney.
I've lost a stone in just under a month eating these kinds of foods, with a bit of extra walking and moving. Am going to join the gym soon and hopefully get nice and toned too! Feel much better because i'm eating lots more fruit and veg and replacing the junky carbs I used to eat like french bread and cakes with complex carbs. I suffer from polycystic ovaries and the low GI diet is supposed to help for some reason, so fingers crossed for that! My depression and insomnia are definitely getting better, maybe cos I just have a better attitude.0 -

GI & GL diets and the type really confuse meI know - so easily done!!
Stimulants would be foods which create a stress response i.e. produce adrenaline. Think coffee or choc to keep you awake, sugar, tea, fizzy drinks etc. They have the additional whammy of disturbing blood sugar balance. If your blood sugar peaks and troughs the dip creates a craving for more sugar (can PM if you need more detail still) so we find ourselves taking another fix despite our desperate desire to avoid those foods we are craving. The upshot is we think we are weak willed when in fact we are following a hormone imbalance involving insulin and adrenaline.
The liver is inherently involved in regulating the transfer of sugar into fat and back into energy and so a nice way to begin a diet may be to do a liver detox (if there is no danger of diabetes or any underlying liver condition). I am a fan of Patrick Holford as I've posted a few times. Although I am training in nutrition I am not at all qualified, my interest was sparked by having two autistic children who responded fantastically to a gluten and dairy free regime. From there I have read and read and studied the role of nutrition in many conditions and have fallen in love with Patrick Holford('s work lolol. He's quite dishy) as it is well written, innovative and makes sound sense.
I'll recommend a couple of his books but do check him out on Amazon. He also lectures so if you have spare cash and time it is a treat to see him talk so passionately and knowledgeably about what we eat. He really motivates you to want to treat your body well.

Sorry I can't shrink the links any further. Not good with the technical stuff. Of the second link the first book is most accessible for starting the diet but the second, with the pink cover, is the most comprehensive. I'm sure I've missed stuff out such as the effect sugar has on dopamine levels in the brain which creates addiction.....and other stuff about white flour etc but if you are interested and can get the books anywhere do give them a go. I have a copy of the first book bought for a christmas pressie which I decided was a little too non-festive to give to my friend so if you don't mind PMing your address I would happily send. Would understand if you are wary.

I have a similar idea for losing pounds which leads to overdraft and bank charges lol.0 -
Didn't mean to offend you!
However 10 stone 2 for a height of 5'5" is well within the normal range (gives a BMI of about 23.5). There is no real reason why you would need to lose weight at the rate of 1 stone per week, and if you lost a stone this would bring you down to the bottom range of ideal weights for your height, so don't understand why this would be a "boost" for you to go before further weight loss.
From what you have posted, it is your body shape which you are unhappy with. Have you thought about perhaps focusing your exercising on bodyshaping work, rather than just walking to make you feel happier with how you look in the mirror. Maybe pilates or weight training. You really don't need to be losing weight in any significant quantity at the figures you are quoting, and it doesn't sound like you are eating "huge portions" as you say. How big a portion can a cuppa-soup yogurt and cereal bar?0
