Unfortunately weight watchers seems to no longer work for me! I appear to be immune to that diet now.
I wouldn't have thought that my diet was particularly bad.
A typical day is:
Breakfast - porridge with banana (or peach) and cinnamon
Lunch - cup a soup, low fat yoghurt, cereal bar
Tea - Grilled salmon with potatoes and veg
See to me that is not a bad, unhealthy diet to follow?!?
But yet last week I gained 3lb!
(In all fairness I had a couple of treats as Fiance was on holiday - but thought I had made up for the treats with all the extra walking and everything I did with him being around!)
Sola the one thing I probably don't do from your list is get enough sleep. I probably average about 5 hours a night at the mo but unfortunately there is nothing I can do about that
Like I say I just need a huge kickstart and then hopefully I can just maintain it!
Do those big knicker things really really work then? They seem so expensive I can't bring myself to buy a pair in case they don't work well enough!!
Aw Angel that comment really conjured up a funny image!
Thanks everyone for all suggestions.
I did my new MOS dance DVD this morning. It isn't half complicated!
Just finished and been showered and once I am dressed I wll be taking the half hour walk to Fiance's Mothers for lunch.Dream of being mortgage free....

How much exercise are you doing? And I don't mean walking - although is always good - I mean exercise that gets your heart rate up for at least an hour for a minimum of three times a week, like jogging, aerobics, cycling, that sort of thing? That's the minimum amount recommended by the Government I do believe.
What you are eating sounds fine generally. Are you also drinking at least two litres of water a day?
The sleep thing is really important but particularly so if you are trying to lose weight. I can't remember the precise details but there's reports that show that those who sleep less find it harder to lose weight, it's something to do with enzymes and chemicals in the body. I'll see if I can dig a link out about it for you.Dealing with my debts!Currently overpaying Virgin cc -balance Jan 2010 @ 1985.65Now @ 703.63

You can't be immune to a diet can you? If you eat less calories then you use up then you must lose weight. Is it more that you are fed up with following it so um...deviate sometimesI wouldn't have thought that my diet was particularly bad.

I don't think that's bad at all but is it sustainable all the time? I think you have to factor in some treats somewhere.See to me that is not a bad, unhealthy diet to follow?!?

I'm on the dieting train myself, don't forget that if you're eating a smaller intake of food then you eat some treats like meals out etc then your weight will fluctuate more because you have more food in you. I expect next week, if you still doing the healthy eating then you'll have lost a bit more than you expected.
I think I read somewhere that if you did the London Marathon and then ate a mars bar - you'd be calorie neutral so it's much easier to eat the calories than excercise them offSola the one thing I probably don't do from your list is get enough sleep. I've found that if I get a big kick start - I then get really disillusioned when I'm down to losing only a pound (or less) a week and find it really hard to keep up the diet. I keep telling myself that it went on slowly and it's just going to come off slowly too
. I don't weigh myself either. I'm calorie counting and my goal every day is to stay under 2000. After 5 weeks my clothes are a little bit looser so not much seems to be happening but to be honest it's much easier to have just one goal for me rather than to have a goal of calorie counting plus another goal of how much weight I'm going to lose by such and such a time.
Do those big knicker things really really work then? They seem so expensive I can't bring myself to buy a pair in case they don't work well enough!!
I actually bought a corset for a wedding and went down a whole dress size :cool:Aw Angel that comment really conjured up a funny image!

I don't know if you've ever been on the debt free wannabe board but I see my dieting as something similar, a food diary is great, lots of people eat way more than they think they do and any changes that are made have to be permanent to be sustainable.
Good luck with your quest for losing weight and don't forget that if you go back to your old habits then the weight will come back on again
As to losing a stone in a week - do you have any unwanted limbs you can chop off

It matters where you get your calories from though. I've lost 9lbs on 3 weeks on a low carb diet. I feel wonderful.
My OH has lost more.
I've done WW etc in the past, and nothing has worked like this.0 -

I sympathise on the not enough sleep thing; unfortunately there is a potential causal link between insomnia and overweight, as lack of sleep can mess up your appetite hormones.
The only other thing I'd say: is it possible you're not actually eating enough calories a day?0 -
Dawnylou- if that's all you eat in a typical day, then that is why you're not losing weight. Even not knowing what weight you are- because that's not enough for any woman to live on. If you have serious amounts of weight to lose I'd visit your GP and ask for help.
Here's my tuppenceworth,though.
Your body thinks there is a famine on- so it is preserving as many calories as it can- that's why your weight is all over the place.
I notice you have a fiance, so can assume there will be a dress to fit into sometime in the future- so here's my tips on what I'd do to look beautiful and radiant on my big day.
Eat at least 5 portions of fruit and veg a day
Add some calcium to your day- a couple of yoghurts, skimmed milk for tea etc.
Drink 6 to eight glasses of water a day.
Have complex carbs instead of simple- wholemeal pasta and rice, leave the skin on potatoes.
Eat lean meat with all visible fat cut off.Grill it or bake it.
Don't eat too much bread
Have tomato or herb based sauces instead of rich, creamy ones.
Ensure you have some fat in your diet- olive oil is good for you.
when you fill your plate, half of it should be veg or salad, quarter of it carbs, and a portion of lean meat or fish about the size of the palm of your hand.
Eat like this, goo dportions of plain and simple food and your body will know the famine is over and find it's own weight.
To exercise- 30 to 40 minutes 5 or 6 days a week, working hard enough to sweat and get a bit out of breath, but still be able to hold a conversation. Work harder and your body will not burn fat, work less hard and you won't burn so many calories.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

If you are on a reduced calorie diet and not losing weight is there a possibility of poor thyroid function? I wouldn't want to speculate and I'm not a doctor but know it can be an issue.
To lose 'girth' quickly, within a week or two, you should try cutting out any stimulants (which screw with your blood sugar...I can let you have more info on this if you like) and try to assess whether there are any foods to which you are intolerant which could be causing bloating and weight gain. Common foods are wheat, dairy, chocolate, coffee etc. Quite a list. Ironically it is usually the food we crave even when we know we are not hungry and find ourselves eating at every meal which can be doing the damage. See if you could list any 'suspects'. I would always try reducing wheat and dairy for a while, we eat too much of these generally anyway. Cutting out such offenders can take you down a dress size in a surprisingly short space of time and can make you feel more alert and awake.
Balancing blood sugar is tremendously important for those who find their weight 'sticks'. Look at a good GI balancing diet or better still, a GL diet.

We don't know what weight and height OP is, so maybe posting weight loss advice is not such a good idea? OP is apparently eating a tiny amount of food at the moment, and wants to lose an abnormal amount in a very short period of time. This could all indicate an eating disorder?
I would tend to suggest that OP sees her GP for advice about what an appropriate weight for her height is, and if she is genuinely overweight the GP may be able to refer her to an exercise programme or give diet advice.0
