Along the same lines has anyone who has actually received a Ben Nevis got the details of the supplier? Manufacturer's name/address etc? When I received a phone call re: my complaint that had been logged, the man I spoke to told me he thought the supplier was based abroad.

As someone posted previously, unless the company has gone bust surely they will still be manufacturing these....?????
  • Hi to all
I have joined this web site tonight after being told by a friend that there was a thread on here about people being let down with orders for playcentres from B&Q on line.
I have spent the last 2 hours reading all the posts from the first to the last.

My story is much the same as most of the posters on here. Sorry but this is going to be a long one!

Placed an order for the Ben Nevis playcentre & tyre & rope accesory on the 18th July (Mon) at 10.03 & recieved immediate Email confirmation.

Placed an order for the football table on the 20th July (Wed) at 17.28 Again recieved immediate comfirmation.

Had a call from B&Q on the 21st July (Fri) to say that the order for the football table would not be being fullfilled as they had no stock & would not be getting any in. She did advice that I could go and but one from Toys R Us & suchlike if I still wanted one. Also that they could have them still in stock at thier stores & that I would have to pay full price for one if I purchased it that way. She said that any monies taken for the order would have to be reclaimed by myself.
I asked if she could check my other order for the Ben Nevis & she said I will be getting a call over the next couple of days about it.

On 26th July (Tues) I phoned B&Q for an update & spoke to a Tom who advised me that 200 Ben Nevis' were delivered into thier warehouse the previous day & that I would get a call soon to allocate one of them to me & confirm delivery.

I called again on the 28th July to see if there was more news, this time spoke to a Steven who guarateed that I would be getting my order & was to await a call. I also Emailed customer services at B&Q to complain the same day, as yet they have not bothered to reply

Another call to them on the 29th July answered by Tom (not the same Tom as before, I asked & he said that 2 Toms worked there) to be told that the 200 they had in earlier in the week had all gone. I asked why I had not had a call about one of them & he said I would still get a call but would be offered an alternative as no Ben Nevis' were left.
I asked why was this happening & said that they had taken too many orders & there was not enough stock.

I have not phoned then at all since then & have not had a call from them to say that I would be offered an alternative. Having read through all your posts I see that it's a losing battle with them & I would be fobbed of with stories again.

So my next plan of action is to contact Watchdog, I have downloaded the link sfrom someones thread (thanks for that) for the on line form & am about to fill it in.

I guess I could give B&Q a call tomorrow just to hear some more pathetic excuses, not once have any of thier customer care team apologised for thier error even though one of them admitted in was an error.

I think B&Q need to seroiusly reconsider how they handle stock levels on thier website & retrain thier customer services staff.

I have resigned myself to not having the order honoured (more so after reading all your posts) but would like some kind of apology from them for the way they have handled (not) the situation. They have had plenty of time to answer my Email but choose to ignore it.

I will let you all know if & when I have any more news on this matter if any thing develops.

Off to fill in the Watchdog form now, lets hope that this pushes B&Q into doing something about the mess they have created.

1st time I've used this so forgive me if it doesn't make sense!!
I too ordered tt on 15th july to be delivered on 2nd aug.a.m. Phoned day before to confirm del time , only to then get a call about 4.30pm to say it wasn't coming!! Was told to ring somewhere else who assured me I would still be getting my tt in 1 to 2 weeks. Emailed stinking letter of complaint to b& q there and then.
Phoned to log complaint- spoke to Kim duty manager who kept butting in - really annoying , and was told that I would get a call back sometime.
Today got a message to phone back Sharon complaints manager 0191 443 3843 who infofmed me that she had refunded my credit card ( they'd had my money 19 DAYS!!). I said wasn't happy with this , mentioned this web site and said they had a huge problem on their hands as so many were taking things further , had contacted press, watchdog, legal advice etc, and that if you had confirmation of order it was a legally binding contract to which she replied that they had taken legal advice and were not breaking any law and were only obliged to refund money paid . I asked what about the fact that they'd had my money for so long , what about the interest and she practically laughed and said there was nothing I could do about it.
I asked why on earth they don't reserve stock the moment it is paid for and she said that their system has been run this way for years and there has never been any problems!! I replied that I thought that the company was an absolute shambles and that they WOULD soon be on watchdog and my complaint would be joining them!!

So reading some of your comments about compensation vouchers is a bit of a shock. At the end of the day though we all just want our products.

I will be contacting PIP tomorrow as previously advised by another member.

Don't know if this is any use but on the site https://www.plumbproducts.co.uk they have the exact model of table tennis table- tel 08700170580 or trade no. for B & Q staff 08700170640!! Will be pnoning them tomorrow as well!!

    Hope this helps

So, B&Q can still supply the wooden play centres can't they - they're just called junglegyms now.....
Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.

Unfortunately there isn't any alternative name or contact details on the paperwork/instructions that came with Ben Nevis.

The only thing that's there is the B&Q name and the model number LM3/05.

As already quoted and advised on this site, (by a post some 8 or so pages back), trying to prove "loss of bargain" is extremely difficult, and someone was advised that it wasn't worth trying, (if my memory is right anyway! Sooooo many pages to read through!!!). As far as legalities go B and Q, unless you can prove the loss of bargain, do only have to refund your money! (Although I would be extremely suprised if they didn't stick a £20 voucher in with it also!)

Edit : Post 403 on page 41 covers the loss of bargain issue.
    Waddle you do eh?
  • I'm emailing plum products to make them aware of the extent of the situation. And the fact that they too are now being put in a bad light.
well every avenue is worth a try!

Hello I too have been directed to this site via some on line friends.

I ordered the Wooden Junior Climbing Frame on the 15th and the money came straight out of my account as I paid by debit card. I had a phone call the next day confirming delivery date for the 2nd August and then recieved a card through the post confirming date. Less than 24 hous before deleivery I was phoned to tell the item was out of stock. Now if it had been out of stock when I ordered it why did they get a third party delivery firm to confirm delivery and why wait 14 days to tell me this. I have spoke to various people on the phone who have confirmed it does not really matter when you order it but it depend if any are in stock the day before your delivery. So they have been selling more item than they have and effectivly re sold the item which I bought to someone else. I considered the frame mine froom the moment they took my money. I havn't got any where with customer services yet but there is no way I am giving up. Did any oone else order this one and actually get it.

Has anyone actually managed to find any of the playcentres, swings, climbing frames, etc, being sold anywhere else online? I've had a look at Plum, but that appears to be only the table tennis table that matches the B&Q products. If we could find the manufacturer of the other items, we might be able to press the 'Loss of Bargain' issue further.
