Meatballs (and sauces)

What about this curry version.
For 1/2 lb minced beef (or you could use lamb, turkey, chicken)
Add approx 1 or 2 cloves crushed garlic and some salt and pepper. Mix well and divide the mixture into about 12 balls.
For the sauce
2 tblsps ghee or oil,
4 cloves
8 black peppercorns
4 inch cinnamon stick
2 bay leaves
1 cardamom
1 large onion finely chopped
2 - 4 tomatoes quartered (or use some tinned chopped tomatoes if stuck)
1 to 2 tablespoons plain yoghourt
1/2 tsp chilli powder or equivalent in dried/fresh chilli
1/2 pint boiling water
1/2 - 1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp chopped coriander leaves
salt to taste
Heat ghee over a low heat in saucepan, stir in cloves, peppercorns, cinnamon, bay leaves and cardamom, stir about for 1 min, then add onion, and cook gently until softened, add the tomatoes, yoghourt and chilli, stirring a little. Add water and salt and bring to the boil. Drop in meatballs. Bring to the boil, reduce heat to a simmer, put lid on pan and allow to simmer for about 15 mins. Just before serving, add garam masala. Serve hot, sprinkled with fresh coriander and have with rice or/and naan bread/chapattis.
Note - fish out the bay leaves, cardamom, cinnamon sticks before serving, otherwise someone will try to eat them.0 -
if you want 'plain' meatballs in gravy these are really nice
8oz good quality minced beef
8oz good sausagemeat (used Lidl's lorne once, bad idea)
1 finely chopped onion
1 1/2 teaspoons tomato puree
1 1/2 oz breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 Tablespoon dark soy sauce (or a stock cube)
Bisto or other thickener
salt & pepper
mix mince, sausagemeat, onion, tomato puree, breadcrumbs & egg
form into balls (any size you like, wetting hands help avoid stickiness)
put into pot or slow cooker (they don't need browned & it's ok to layer them)
add enough water to cover & add soy sauce
bring to boil & simmer 3/4 hour (or consult your SC manual for times)
thicken gravy & season to taste
you can serve them straight away, but I prefer to make them in advance & take off any fat that forms on the surface0 -

The way I make my meatballs is
500 g mince
1 Onion
1 Clove Garlic
2 Carrots
1 Red pepper de-seaded
Put all the veg into a food processor to chop very fine, then add mince let the food processor mix it all up for you! then roll into balls, add to a frying pan with no oil (there will be enough comming out of the mince!) Fry off until nicely browned (removing oil as you go) serve with a tomato based sauce (if cheating I use a jar of tesco pasta sauce!) YUM and the kids eat them!

Try Dee's oniony meatball recipe. It's in the recipe index and I've used this recipe for meatballs and for burgers.

I've done this with burgers in the past using spicy mexican cheese I got in Sainsburys. It was one with chillies in and gave the burgers a nice "kick".
Not sure about meatballs though, might not work with my sauce.0 -
I tried this sauce sandy and it was pretty much like Ikeas0
