and use the Dell OS recovery CD creation...it will allow you to make ONE copy of your operating system. Other tools for drivers etc.
Thanks for this.... being pedantic, the system that Dell sold me didn't have a CD writer in it so I wouldn't be able to make a backup with the system. As it happens I have put a DVD writer in so can do it - but I believe that we really should get a proper XP install disk so I'm still going to ask for one. My understanding is that these original disks would be more reliable than a copy I make myself.0 -
If you didn't get a set of OS CDs I really think you should kick up a fuss and demand a set. (Although I'm still waiting for mine to arrive!)have been told by email that the video card IS in fact the 128MB ATI Radeon 9800 Graphics Card.You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0

I've just bought a Dell 3000 desktop system and I've decided to sell on the monitor (and keep the base unit). Does anyone know if I will be able to transfer the warranty of just the monitor to the new owner and still have a warranty for the base unit?
I doubt it - you only get one service tag number for the whole system (unless you bought each item individually) and you need this to transfer the warranty.0 -
Taken from Dell's website:

Dell are required to supply by the Supply of Extended Warranties on Domestic Electrical Goods Order 2005.
This panel applies only to purchases of Dell Services packages of more than one year in length which are purchased by private individuals (NOT BUSINESSES) at the same time or immediately subsequent to the time that they purchase (for their own private use) the electrical equipment from Dell to which the Service package relates ("Relevant Warranties").
Dell is required to inform consumers
[snipped the boring bit]
(d) that an extended warranty does not have to be purchased at the same time as a domestic electrical good;
(e) consumers buying a Relevant Warranty may:
(i) cancel it by notice within 45 days of the purchase date and obtain a full refund - provided that no claim has been made;
(ii) cancel it by notice more than 45 days after the purchase date and obtain a pro rata refund for the complete months of the warranty period remaining unused on the date of receipt of the notice;
Strange then that I would be told by Dell if I want to cancel the warranty that I have to do it within 7 days, AND that I have to return the whole system. For example, if I've had the PC more than 45 days, I can still cancel the warranty pro-rata, and I bet they wouldn't want me to return the computer aswell.
So I think Dell have misinformed me about that, aswell as the PCI card.
Furthermore Dell have not told me if my extended warranty is a "Basic, Standard or Premier".
Good job I'm on the ball! Think I like the sound of this new "Supply of Extended Warranties on Domestic Electrical Goods Order 2005". How many people new about this as it isn't exactly advertised?0 -
Any feedback on this people?

Im also looking at this package it looks good and I have been looking around for sometime now and nearly bought a hp from Tiny thankfully I didnt as maybe I wouldnt have recieved it.
Back to the Inspiron 6000, I would recommend changing the processor to the 1.6 Intel Pentium....(top option on the customise bit). It brings up the price by about £20 but its worth it. And dont forget to change the wireless lan card so it matches.
This offer runs out today and I think im going to risk it and wait to see what they offer next with roughly the same spec. But I think it is a great buy. Post if you find and better deal and so will I.0 -

I am not sure if this is the right place for this post, but I am looking for help in which dell model to buy - I have an old Time Athlon 800mhz and my son just bought a game which needs 256 RAM - obviously this dinosaur doesn't have it!
He is 11 and is obviously quite interested in gaming online etc - so could someone (you all seem to have loads of knowledge) recommend a dell model that is not too expensive and will support some gaming. Thanks0 -
a likely story.....come on notcosi, we all know that the game is for you and you're using your son as an excuse to get a new computer to play with ;-)0

Well sparkymarky there may be a half truth in there, but honestly, if anyone has any suggestions..0
