Has anyone got any valid evalue codes?, none of those mentioned are working for me.
    Thanks in advance.

It seems all codes starting 07 will not work now. I guess that's because they are now offering August deals which probably start 08. That's my best guess !!

  • I went on to the Dell Outlet website.
I found the following spec machine - a Dell 5100 with 64 bit processor.
The cost was orignally £428.76 without VAT and delivery, but dropped to £378.76 as they have £50 of at the moment for dell outlet. Remember that's without VAT & Delivery.
    Dimension 5100 Pentium 4 541 (3.20GHz)
    Memory: 1G Memory, 2 X 512mb (400Hz, 512)
Hard Disk Drive: 160GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
Modem: V.92 Data Fax Modem UK
    2 DVD Drives: 16X IDE DVD ROM and a 16 X DVD +/- RW
Video: "128MB ATI Radeon 9800 Graphics Card with TV-OUT" is stated (is that different from the "128MB PCI Express ATI RadeonTM X300 SE" ????
    NO MONITOR INCLUDED.

I added £87.74 for a 3 Year On-Site Next Business Day Service Support
    £410.95 Order Sub Total
£25.00 Estimated System Shipping* for Standard (Discounted Shipping)

£512.24 Grand Total Including Delivery and VAT

Was that a bargain? I don't know. I was attracted to the BTX extremely quiet casing and operating as I hate th whirring of my old system.

It comes with a "128MB ATI Radeon 9800 Graphics Card with TV-OUT" - but is that different or the same as the "128MB PCI Express ATI RadeonTM X300 SE"??

    Thanks

Not sure. I paid £214 inc VAT and delivery for a Dimension 5100 (but had to buy it with an Inspiron 6000 which was for a friend). It was 3GHz P4 with 512Mb RAM, 80Gb Hd, onboard graphics and DVD rom (and no screen). Today I have added an NEC 3540 DVD writer and XFX 6200GT Nvidia graphics card for an extra £72. So for your extra £200 you have an extra 0.2Ghz, 60Gb HD, 512Mb Ram, modem, different graphics card and 3 year onsite warranty. I think I got a bargain.... it depends on how much you value a 3 year warranty and if you need modem, extra HD etc.....but then again you can't get what I bought - so it's probably as good as you're going to get at the moment. The Dimension 5100 is very quiet, good looking and very easy to add the DVD/graphics card to. It doesn't have parallel/serial/keyboard/mouse ports though. Only USB.... so if you have existing equipment that require these ports you will have extra expense replacing them or buying new cables.

EDIT : I've just had a look at the graphics card you were offered and it seems a very good one (retail about £90) so I would say this system you have got is very good.
  • ok, from the outletbargains site, I've been told that the listing of the radeon 9800 is a mistake and that they will come with a 128MB PCI Express ATI RadeonTM X300 SE. For some reason they all list on the inventory screen as a 9800, some weakness in their listing system that fails to list the corrent gfx. Still a bargain though. IMO

A Radeon 9800 would be a VERY different beast from a X300SE - much more powerful. If you got a machine with one of these I would think you'd got a bargain. With the X300SE it's still a pretty good spec machine, although I've never really rated warranties too much.

I think you will find that Dell waranties are reliable...as least they're probably not going to go out of business unlike a few other PC companies.
If you're not happy to 'mess' about with your PC and are looking to keep it for a couple of years it's a good move.

Sorry - when I said I didn't rate warranties its because they seem to cost quite a lot, compared to how much it would cost to fix the problem yourself. However, if you're not at all PC minded or technical, and rely on your PC they are probably well worth it.

Can you extend a Dell Warranty AFTER you have bought the machine? The reason i ask is that i bought a really good laptop on the outlet site, and as i plan on keeping it for a couple of years it seems like a good idea...

If there is a link or something maybe someone could post it?

Dell have rung me in the past offering me the chance of extending the warranty at a reduced rate (still cheaper usually to use an insurance based warranty)...
