Can you extend a Dell Warranty AFTER you have bought the machine?

It seems that you can, yes. If you look at this page and at the bottom where it says "Click here to find the details" it gives you the pricing for the various support services you can buy. Although it seems you have to do it by phoning them rather than buying online. HTH

I've been reading some of the previous comments after transferring the warranty with interest. I've just bought a Dell 3000 desktop system and I've decided to sell on the monitor (and keep the base unit). Does anyone know if I will be able to transfer the warranty of just the monitor to the new owner and still have a warranty for the base unit?

I missed out on the 64Mb memory stick by a day so sent them an email. Have both the memory stick and a copy of XP on its way (I hope!)

I also missed out on the 64Mb by a day. They said they would send me one out.... it came yesterday - but it was a 128Mb stick! I'm now enquiring about the XP disk by asking them how I would restore my PC if my hard disk broke and the machine was out of guarantee.

Tried this and it seems that these are the descriptions of the upgrade option before you buy...quoted me £150 for 12 months on an Inspiron 2200....I've just stopped laughing.

    Try this http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kb/en/document?c=us&cs=19&DN=1092188&l=en&s=dhs#step3

and use the Dell OS recovery CD creation...it will allow you to make ONE copy of your operating system. Other tools for drivers etc.
  • Regarding Warranties. I have bought a Dell machine in the last few days from the Dell Outlet. A decent spec Dimension 5100 with 64 bit 3.2GHz chip with 1G DDR2 RAM. I was toying with buying the warranty that they offer. In the end I went for it, and got a 3 yr warrant on site for £80 + VAT. The machine itself is the one describer earlier in this thread. I only went for the warranty because I am starting a computer based businesss, and don't want to lose a couple of days without the pc working. Otherwise, as I have computer assembly knowledge, I probably would have not opted for it.

THE INTERESTING BIT: If you order from dell outlet, you have 7 days (from delivery I guess) to change your mind. But according to dell, if you change your mind about just the warranty and don't want it, you have to return the whole system!! I thought warranties like any kind of insurance came with cooling off periods. Think it's a bit poor that you can't just keep the computer and cancel the warranty within 7 days. Assuming that you can't do that, which is what they are suggesting.

The good news is that I have been told by email that the video card IS in fact the 128MB ATI Radeon 9800 Graphics Card. The ordering system suggested that it could be that, or it could be the inferior 128MB PCI Express ATI RadeonTM X300 SE.

That makes my purchase a bargain I reckon. However, if it gets delivered with the inferior card, I wonder what they will say when I complain? "Send the whole thing back, or make do" probably.
  • Isn't the 5100 a PCI-E only system ?

    Never heard of a 9800 Pro in PCI-E ....

    Mark.
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!

I very much doubt is is the 9800 graphics card as that uses an AGP slot, the X300 is a PCIe card and that's what the 5100 has.

one the outlet the X300 card comes up on the list as a 9800, but on the full specs of the machine you should see the correct card. I would put money on it being the X300 I'm afraid...
