can anyone tell me, why a person would put their house up for auction rather than regular sale? or are they all repossessions? i know it can be good to do when there is a LOT of interest in a place, but it seems like that wouldn't be the reason for a lot of these places...
excuse my naivete!0 -
Get a quick sale. Behind on the mortgage for example.
Bank repossession.
Can't be bothered to do any marketing (eg that telephone repeater station).0 -
thanks. i have to say, lot 167 (one of the croydon flats) has to be in the ugliest building I have ever seen in my life. i can imagine the discussion at the architects... "well if we can't decide, lets just have a bit of every style going all the way back to the 1500s! yay!"0

A lot of these are reposessions, HBOS plc is listed as owner on a lot of them.
There are also a few properties in tiny villages that actually look quite decent; quite a few aren't on the house price sites so presumably haven't been sold since before 2000.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
