Just rang the Chelsea BS for information about a remortgage, and I am a bit gobsmacked by their attitude they are really positive about people paying their mortgage on time but if they are on a DMP they consider that to be taking responsibility so are willing to give us a chance, on paper the offer was 6.34% fixed for two years we are paying nearly 10% so very good.

Trouble is it all feels to good to be true, if we were to be able to go with them and pay for two years without a late payment then we could remortgage again with them and they ignore our credit history and we get the high street figure for "normal" customers.

Gowd I hope this is all true...
  • Hi Rayday..
Just read your last post with interest...My 0% deal with MBNA runs out in July and now I've received a letter about the minimum payment being 5%..When this happens I will be in no position to keep that and everything else on track. Have done the debt remedy stuff with CCCS & that recommended a DMP, one of my worries (amongst others! lol) was that once my fixed deal with N Rock ends in July 2009 I'd be struggling to find a mortgage deal. Sounds like that might not be the case!
Now I need to get as many things in order as I can, before I step out into the fear of the unknown!!

Well I certainly will keep you up to date, it makes me feel good to think a high street lender is considering us. Also that people on a DMP are being looked as responsible.

He did say before the credit crunch other hight street lenders were stepping into the market too but for now have backed off but pointed out in the year to come lots more people are going to be less than perfect so it will be a growing market.
  • Well, DH and I are just about set up on a Payplan DMP now and we are having the joy of the never ending calls from Halifax and they are refusing to freeze interest and charges! The cheek of the guy I spoke to last night - suggesting I borrow from friends or family to pay the outstanding amount! The rest of our creditors have been fine so far. Well, I guess it's just a waiting game now til it's all set up.

Can I have a number too please!?

Wow, Rayday - that's sounding positive. Will be something I keep an eye on too. May come in handy soon!

Sanshing you can report Halifax for telling you to borrow from friends I would write a letter as a "formal complaint" put it at the top of letter and quote the information from the following link, I suspect they may play ball more when they realise you are clued up!

  • Hi
Can I join? DMP since Sept! Long old haul ahead of me but trying to get on with it, though concerned about remortgage as DH didn't pay mortgage properly for 4 months, it's due for renewal in May and we're still clearing arrears so cross. Any advice gratefully received -

Bessy! What a minefield I think since Christmas my tumble dryer broke but sod that 5 people in the house I cashed some of my ISA in and got a new one!

Dishwasher is now being stupid but hopefully I get a backdated pay rise of three year soon - soon in the scale of waited 3 years so far! So hopefully it will cover the cost. I know its a luxury and its naughty but OK I am a lazy cow!

Big tip for you - less sword fighting with household utensils :P
