Maz - I agree with Rayday, don't let your friend or you pay the overlimit. Stick to your guns and continue paying your agreed amount whatever the interest or charges.
debrag - Are you doing your DMP yourself? £42 a month is silly and unsustainable to leave yourself, the whole point of a DMP is to pay the debts off without leaving yourself in poverty! (3) on your credit rating means that you are in arrears for three months payment - it isn't an improvement. No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
Defaults do not necessarily mean you go to court. Most of my accounts have had defaults its just something that happens, sometimes following one they will accept plans or pass it onto a DCA who will accept a plan.
If you find an amount to prevent a default they could say you obviously have more money than you are letting on. Also what happens the next time they say they will send one?
HI Rayday 2, I am new to this thread and the people on here are great - really helpful with lots of advice.
I notice lots have DMP thread numbers....Do you give these out, or how do I get one? Cheers Angel CakeDMP Mutal Support thread No 193

DH and I have been thinking a lot about the phone calls we are likely to get from our creditors and wondered if it would be a bad idea to change our phone number to coincide with the DMP starting. What do you think?Lightbulb moment: 14 May 2008Debt free date: April 2014DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 188Nightowl Member No 160

Hi Just me, I dont know about changing your number, it would be a lot of hassle for you, letting family, friends know etc.....The calls may not be as bad as you think anyway. Maybe give it a couple of weeks or so and see. I sent my £1's off 2 weeks ago with a covering letter, and I know PayPlan have now contacted the creditors, I only seem to be getting one or two calls every other day from 2 creditors and I have 13 creditors! How many creditors due you have?
A few ideas......
1) I think I may have already mentioned caller display. You can get this through BT, it is either free of charge or about £1 a mont. That way if you see any 0800, 0845 etc numbers come up you could ignore (most are call centers anyway)
2) Be brave and answer the phone, tell them you are in the process of putting together a DMP with CCCS and quote the reference number, goodbye and thank you!
3) Write to your creditors and say you will only correspond via letter. Not sure if this would filter through to the dreaded call centers though!
I am sure other peeps on this thread may have other or more helpful advice, these are just a few ideas I have.
I know exactly how you are feeling, every day I have another question / worry about my DMP !

Thanks Angel. I will have to check about caller display as I'm with Virgin not BT.
I can't remember exactly I think we have 4 or 5 creditors but we have several debts with Lloyds TSB and they seem to be the biggest phone calling culprits. I guess I'm just nervous and there is so much going on in my head atm I just want to get this underway.Lightbulb moment: 14 May 2008Debt free date: April 2014DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 188Nightowl Member No 160 -
Hello everyone
I've just been reading the thread "people who borrow money and then can't pay it back are theives" Yikes - I'm never going to venture into that board for advice! They were so harsh, and with the level of my debt it looks like I would be the debtor equivalent of the Yorkshire Ripper! Everyone on these boards is a DFW - the clue is in the title!
It did make me think about my situation tho - having just lost my job and all. Am I one of these theives?? Clearly we can't keep up with the proposed DMP payments if I don't get another job quick, but I'm actually quite scared to go back to work (for those of you who don't know me - I was signed off with depression and after three weeks my employers sacked me! Part of the depression was money and part of it was that I was in a job I hated) hence I am quite scared to get another job in case I go back to square one. I think I need a bit of a reality check, cos at the moment the thought of going back to work full time makes me feel like i will be trapped again. Part time is an option but would mean severely reducing DMP payments. Reading about how a lot of people are doing hard jobs (and sometimes more than one) makes me feel rather ashamed of myself and I know I just need to "get on with it". The debts will not pay themselves so I have to do something about this.
I have today sent my CV in to the local authority for temp jobs as apparently there are always loads going, so fingers crossed. I am feeling better each day but just seem to be in a tunnel with the whole job situation. Temping I think is a good option, as I think it will aleviate the "trapped" feeling.
For all the newbies worried about phonecalls etc, I haven't had any nasty ones. Some creditors don't have my number I know, but the calls I have had have been polite and at the end of the day, if they are rude just hang up! I have received quite a lot of letters from LLoyds but again I am ignoring them as I know that they have heard from CCCS, cos they have rejected the offers. They will get first payment this month, so maybe then they will have change of heart.
I am facing a charging order from NR but that's as bad as it gets, and even then, in practical terms it doesn't really affect you, you just carry on making payments, so try not to worry.0 -
Evening all! I was very brave today and phoned Blair, Oliver & Scott debt collectors about my debt with Sainsburys bank. We are on a DMP with CCCS since October and Sainsburys were the only creditor to keep charging us interest and other charges. I had received a letter and two text messages to contact BO&S but was really scared what they would say. I had nothing to worry about as the lady just took my CCCS DMP number and asked what I had been paying monthly via them to Sainsburys and said that as long as they received the same amount that would be ok. No hassle at all - yet!!
I forgot to ask though if the interest charges would stop now - does anyone know if this is the case as our balance owing is growing with these charges?Official DFW Nerd Club Member no 694

Loopy - did you intend to lose your job? did you intend to be ill? I don't think so. Those people were really harsh I commented somewhere else that I hadn't realise such segregation existed on MSE I thought it was a big family but obviously I have been naive. I too will steer clear of that board.
Best of luck with the job hunting and I hope you find what is suitable for you.:DLightbulb moment: 14 May 2008Debt free date: April 2014DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 188Nightowl Member No 160 -
Can't agree more. I went onto the thread out of interest to see what was being said and could not quite beleive what people were saying!
Think some people need to remember that abusive and offensive posts can be reported! What a bunch of nasty people!
Anyway Loopy, good luck with the job search. Hopefully if you secure a job that you enjoy, it will make you feel better. Dont let the experience of your previous job and the fact you hated it put you off - there are nice jobs and nice people out there!
Chin up

Added number 193 - welcome!
Just Me - I changed my phone number when I started my DMP I told family and friends we were getting funny phone calls and lots of sales ones so had a new number and went ex directory it was free too!
The plus side was that my creditors can only write to me and I am sure that is why some of mine were quicker accepting they could not pressurise me. You can open your mail after a cup of tea on your terms rather than a phone ringing whenever they feel like it!0
