Shazand, maybe we should start our own thread about the phone thing lol

Just me had a good idea about changing your number wouldn't work for me as even at the age of 41 I still cannot lie to my Dad and he would ask why we had done it. He dosen't ask about money things so I don't have to lie to him re the DMP just not tell him :)

wen3 the thread idea is a classic !! lol

I am 33 and exactly the same with my dad lol. I never play poker with him :D

    HI,

What I did was to make sure I had new bank account and all my income was going to the new bank account when I sent everybody letters to hold action while I am seeking advice and at the same time cancelled all sos and dds.

    Hi Marru

Did you send token payments ? where the creditors ok to wait ?

This is a pure fluke but we have opened and A&L account as Lloyds were charging us for the account. We are just in the process of switching all DD's, SO's and income over to the new account.

There's a bit of a theme developing here. Lots of people are genuinely worried and upset about their creditors phoning them.

Personally, I don't give a hoot. I'm big and ugly enough to tell them to go fork themselves but I know others are not so strong/arrogant/nasty as me.

I have seen a template letter somewhere which you can send to creditors to tell them not to call you and to delete your phone number from their databases. If they call you after that, you can complain to the information commissioners office under the data protection act.

I don't have time to dig it out now - or in the next few days. Perhaps some other kind soul can have a ferret about.

Bottom line in all of these calls though is that it's YOUR phone and it's for you to say who can ring you. The other bottom line (can there be two?) is that you are doing your best to repay, you cannot pay any more than you are and no matter how many times they ring you, there is going to be no more money for them than you are already paying.

HI Shanzand, I am in the process of a DMP (3 weeks in)
I cancelled all my DDs and SOs straight away and transfered to my new bank account.
One word of warning, if your current bank is one of your creditors, make sure you get your wages paid into your new bank account until you alert them to the situation, as they could 'arrest' your wages!

I sent a letter to all my creditors saying I was currently experiencing financial diffuiculties and quoted them my Payplan ref number. I gave them all a token payment of £1.

The phone calls (so far) have been not so bad. I signed up to caller display so I do not take any I dont feel like!

There seems to be a few of us on this thread at the same stage of DMP so I am sure we can offer each other lots of support

No they weren't but that was expected. Initially I didn't send token payments as I asked for 28 days to seek advice. After visiting CAB I sent new lot of letters with the token payment offers. Phone calls and letters kept coming and only after I sent them "proper" offers after paying two months token payments all of the creditors have defaulted, two have accepted my DMP and I am yet to hear from the last three. But all the calls and letters have stopped. It seems bad at the time but it does calm down rather quickly. What I said to the callers (Lloyds cc) was when they asked my security details I just said that I have sent then x amount of letters and as yet haven't got reply from them and that I would be very grateful if they would have the courtesy to reply to my correspondence as soon as possible in writing - thank you and have a good day. I did speak to the ones that only called once a month (M&S cc). Funnily my own bank (NW: dd, loan, od) didn't call - not once.

Try to not let them get you down. If you feel a bit fed up don't answer the phone.

The reasons you went on a DMP was to give you some sort of life back rather than being a slave to the credit circle. You have been responsible, come to a brave decision and now you need to keep at the back of your mind you are doing the right thing. Companies pay people to get more money out of you, they are on a bonuses and their holiday rests on you caving in!
  • Hi this is my first time doing this so if anyone can help me I would be very greatful. -

I am in a debt management plan (started at the age of 22) but I wasnt told just how bad it would affect my credit rating, i cant even change my home phone provider as this is subject to credit checks.

Any ideas what I can do????

    Thanks everyone x
