I applied for DMP via the CCCS website on Monday morning, the forms arrived yesterday but I've not sent them back out yet as I need to find latest statements etc.

Thanks for the number rayday2 :D

Well you still have time to send them the stuff. Then it takes about a week to get the welcome pack and slip for the first post office cash payment for the DMP.

They say payment by 1st of month - but on the first month they will let you pay later (think it was up to 9th of month) and still start the DMP that month - I think I paid my first payment on 4th of month as that's the day I got the slip.

You probably have just enough time - as long as you don't hang about too long in getting the papers back to them. Hope that helps :D

Hi Newlywed. I'm no expert, far from it, having only just embarked on on my DMP last month. But cast your mind back to when you orginally set up your DMP..as a fledgling, just like me...didn't your advisor say just what Rayday is saying..."Don't sell your self short each month"... Otherwise , and the way I see it, th DMP kind of becomes a new debt concern, all on its own and, you start thinking of it as a hungrey creditor, instead of what its there for, to give you a fighting chance to settle your debts and at the same time, live life as close to normally ( whatever that is) as is possible. I agree with Rayday, I'd review the DMP and avoid those sleepless nights you were perhaps suffering pre DMP days...Again, I'm new to this and just as desparate as you to reduce the repayment period.

Thanks cloudnine - sorry missed your post earlier. Yeah am starting to think about what a large chunk goes to the DMP and how I'm broke over a week before payday. I don't want to rock the boat as the DMP is quiet but there doesn't seem to be much talk of petrol and food prices coming back down - or even staying steady so will seriously have to think about changing my DMP :o

We are determined to get through the next two years, then we'll have £300 more to throw at the debts (unless things go up hugely in that time!).

Hi everyone, read your post newlywed and had to reply. I too am feeling the pinch, things have gone up so much since I did my last review with CCCs. I have a shortfall of around £100 a month. I dont know what too do either, should I struggle on or reduce the DMP payment??????????? cloudnine's post was very good though and hit the nail on the head!!!

  • Hi, can I join? Have been dithering, lurking and seriously burying my head in the sand since last August but have finally called CCCS this morning and got telephone appointment with them Tuesday afternoon to set up DMP.

Am relieved to be ready to deal with the debts, and feel much stronger than when I first found the site thanks to everybody sharing their experiences. Just not feeling so alone has really helped me to the point where I have now managed to tell my DH about the situation, something that back in August I would literally have rather died than do.

    Just wanted to say thanks.

  • Afternoon all!:D

Just popping in to say hi!
newlywed - I agree with what has already been said. If you cannot manage to buy the basics from month to month I think you need to reduce your DMP payments, why not give CCCS a ring and ask for a review, explain the situation and that you are struggling to live, do a new I and E with them and make sure that you have included everything. I am sure you will not be the first person who has decreased their payments and your position remains the same as it always has been. You are paying what you can afford !.
OK so it will take longer to pay off your debts but if you cant make a payment one month your whole dmp will fail anyway. Better to make manageable payments than to risk having to miss a payment altogether.
