I pay between £230-£280 per Quarter, 1bed flat.
    Everything is electric
i have 2 computers and TV on pretty much all day.

Does that sound expensive or do you think that's normal ?
  • Two bedroom house. Gas and electricity from British Gas. All light bulbs are energy efficient, gas heating. TV is on pretty much all day long (40inch backlight LED 75W), 2 desktop PCs on and off, 1 fridge/freezer, 1 cooker, 1 washing machine. Three people live in the property.

    Usual summer quarter bill 150
    Usual winter quarter bill 300

I’ve now completed all my actual costs for 2005 and for electricity is has worked out as follows :-

£0.61 pence per day or an average of £18.55 per month (0.61 x 365 /12)

The costs above include the VAT element. Due to the great advice and knowledge on this site I have used less Units of Electricity and overall it works out 27.38% cheaper than 2004 even though there were considerable price rises. I live alone and the property is a three bed roomed detached cottage (1930’s build). The main electrical appliances I use are: -

    Washing machine
    Fridge
    Freezer
    Lighting
    Bread Maker
    Slow Cooker and Microwave
Various electrical tools in the garage
    Computer & printer
    TV
    Vacuum cleaner

    Hope this helps.... :D

That sounds roughly like me but I don't see how I can keep my bills down with standing charges though I use as little as I can regarding the gas...as said elsewhere I stay under the duvet and wear warm clothes so it's the electric I use, I have all of the above except no printer, bread maker, tv at present, but I have a DAB radio. The washer, tumble drier and Vacuum cleaner are used sparingly(Monthly)

In three bedroom semi with good loft and cavity wall insolation. And I have two PC's but try to avoid using them at the same time and it's an obession switching everything off. I use an energy saving lightbulb on the landing that shines into all the rooms upstairs where I mainly live or tealight candles...

It's all new to me paying for energy bill on my limited income and with everything going up in price including the rent, council tax and the new bedroom tax, food coming in...I'm repeating myself from other threads but Mum passed away a few months ago...so income is reduced now...

Maybe a silly question but why have a poll that is

    a) closed

    b) 7 years out of date

    as a sticky thread?
  • A new poll would be really useful, I was about to post a reply about my electric bill but not sure if anyone will read it here!

Probably not, best to start a new thread.

Would it be possible to redo this poll with amounts above £30 and to clarify that it's price/person?
  • Ok I think I'm being robbed here...
I live in a one bed ground floor flat. Bedroom is 16ft by 12. Sitting room 14ft square, bathroom 8ft by 10 and kitchen 6ft by 8ft. Two adults. One toddler and one baby. We have NO central heating. Gas fire, gas hob, gas boiler and electric elsewhere. Washer or drier are always on as both kids are in washable nappies as well as the usual chaos of family washing! (Thou we always use economy settings) I pay £64 a month direct debit to British gas just for the gas - we don't use the fire between April and October generally but they say we need to pay this much per month to stop us going into debt over winter... And we have a British gas pre pay metre (as they used to charge £94 a month for electric) using the metre it's now about £65-£80 a month electric so up to £150 for both. Does that seem alot to any one else!? X
  • Hi Jenny £150 is a lot more than I pay for my 3 bed semmi.
First thing is how much insulation is in the walls? cavity filled?
Use a comparison site to see if there is a cheaper tariff.
I have the washing machine on every day too but my washing goes outside on the line.Tumble dryers use heat so are costly.
Can you cut down the hours you are heating the hot water?
I know how difficult high bills are but fuel is one you can work on to cut down.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)
