Unfortunately they exist due to the naive ,greedy and stupid, which make up 99% of the UK population. You are fortunately in the 1% not affected:beer:

If I want to buy a car I see for sale, I will talk to the person selling it, I am not likely to walk into an office and say "I've seen this car I like, can you get hold of the seller for me".

Likewise if I was selling a car, I would be more interested in a potential buyer asking me about it, moreso if they are local, Should someone call me and say "Ive got someone here who might be interested", I would say "Put them on then", No chance am I prepared to pay for the privilege of someone selling it for me.

Moral of the story is simple, wait for a caller who says "Iam interested in buying your car", ignore the rest.

  • They tried it out on me after I placed an ad in Autotrader. Thanks to you guys I knew it was a scam so thank you very much.

Of course if someone wanted to get back at them a bit I suppose you could keep calling their freephone number putting 141 in front to block the caller ID.

    Oh, and it's 0800 012 2221. But don't go being a nuisance to them! LOL :T
  • Just come off the phone from Michael from Vehicle Credit Services following my Autotrader ad. £99 to put 3 buyers onto me, viewings tomorrow, cash in my hand.

VCS wanted to know why was I selling the car at below market price? They can get me an extra £150 more than the advertised price. The price is in fact £200 more than Glasses guide for negotation so VCS can get me £350 more than Glasses.

VCS need the £99 now in case the buyers buy on the VCS pre-arranged finance to pay for a warranty. They can't accept payment after car is sold.

Too good to be true?? Saw this thread and said "No thank you".
  • Just come off the phone to them (Again) having nearly fell into thier trap last week. A quick 'Google' reveals all showing so much negative feedback. They continue to persistently badger me offering discounted prices and state they have purchases willing to pay above asking prices!

    Scam written all over it!

  • I've been stupid enough to give them the money because they said they were a Peugeot Dealer and I'm desperate to sell my car as moving overseas. When I discovered it was a scam, I rang my bank which said they could not do anything till the payment was processed...which I interpreted as I'll never see that money again.
I was so furious I called Vehicle Credit Services and told them I was going to cancel the payment with my bank because the whole thing was a scam. The guy I had on the phone said " OK thank you for letting us know" and....less than 5 minutes later I had a call from "Jeff" who said I should not start any process with my bank because they were going to refund me if I wanted. Seems this kind of threat does work with these guys even if you have fallen in the trap ! So don't get desperate if you've been as stupid and naive as me...there might always be a chance. Let wait and see if I see the money on my bank account. :)
  • Quick note to say Vehicle Credit services did refund me ! So, my strategy worked.
  • Unfortunately I too was stupid enough to fall for this scam although they have not been so forthcoming to give me my money back. I have phoned and emailed them and threatened legal action but they are refusing so I have now gone to consumer direct and will be contacting my bank to see if they can do anything as I paid on credit card and so I might be able to claim the money back through them.
