Good idea to freeze stuff though - if otherwise it gets nicked. I have frozen chocolate before now and its fine - though I personally have been known to just eat it straight out of the freezer! (wouldnt think most people would attempt to steal frozen chocolate though).

When my kids were around, I used to hide chocolates/choc bars/choc biscuits (all wrapped of course) inside bags of frozen sprouts, cauli etc!

Still love my chocolate frozen - need to remember to split toblerones BEFORE freezing though. It can be a very painful experience to try to eat a frozen toblerone!

My Mum used to hide packets of chocolate digestives in our spin dryer as a treat when we came home ravenous from school. . Then one day she forgot, dumped all the dripping hand-washed laundry in on top of it and set it going. It made a terrible mess and she had to do the whole wash again by hand. The hiding place for the biscuits got changed after that, and we never did discover where she put them!

    Hello

I am doing the catering for a surprise 60th and seen a fab gordon ramsay receipe for a pork and ham pie. It doesn't mention whether it can be frozen and it would make my life a lot easier if it can be.

Here are the ingredients, could you please let me know if I can freeze this??
    • 6 eggs
    • 400g minced pork
    • 200g good-quality pork sausagemeat
    • 140g cooked ham meat (see know-how), chopped into small chunks
    • small handful sage leaves
    • 1 small onion , finely chopped
    • few shakes Tabasco sauce
    • 2 leaves gelatine (optional, see Know-how)
    FOR THE PASTRY
    • 100g lard , plus extra for greasing
    • 450g plain flour , plus extra for dusting
    • 4 tbsp milk
    • 1 egg , beaten

  • I don't see why you shouldn't be able to freeze this. Maybe try the recipe in one quarter of the quantity and give it a trial run? You could also make the filling and pastry up and freeze seperately then thaw, assemble and cook.

  • Hi.. I've got a 500g pack of mince in my freezer but the date on it is from October 2008 when I froze it, will it be ok to defrost and use or should I bin it?

    Thanks..

Was that date on it when bought fresh?

If so, I've always understood it to mean that it was the 'useby date' for if it remained fresh - and could be disregarded when it had been frozen - as long as it was frozen BEFORE the 'useby date'.

If bought fresh, taken home and then frozen, you are preventing it from going off (barring accidental defrost etc.).

I've got minced beef/chicken/diced turkey etc in my freezer that was bought fresh before Christmas and all will get defrosted and used eventually, regardless of what date was on the packaging when bought!
