  • After reading a few posts and mentioning freezing milk i've never heard of this before and wondered is it safe??

We use alot of milk about 3 pints a day so freezing and stocking up would be better as farmfoods do 2 litres for £1 but i hardly get to go there iyswim.

But i also want to know what else i can freeze??

I've heard people freeze veg, but do you cook it first or freeze it fresh?

any other tips to save me money by freezing?

Having had a big income loss i've already changed from fresh to frozen meat, and get 2 meals out of a chicken(which i never used to do), i use microfibre cloths for everything(i know not food related but ms), i already use stardrops (a tip from my mum;) ).

Milk - perfectly fine frozen - I always buy 4 pints and freeze two (as we don't get through even that sometimes before if goes sour!)

I always end up freezing veg before it goes off I just put it in a bag and freeze - I don't blanch anything except corn on the cob (not really sure why I even do that!)

You can buys 'whoopsies' on the date they 'sell by' and freeze them - perfectly fine and tons cheaper than buying things with a long sell by date on them!

I don't think there's much you can't freeze except things like lettuce and cucumber (with high water contents)

    Hi athensgeorgia,

Yes you can freeze milk. This thread should help:

    Freezing Milk

There's an earlier thread on food that can and cant' be frozen that may help:

    What foods can/can't you freeze?

Also if you browse through the thread that Penny has mentioned you should get a good idea of what is suitable for freezing.

Probably a silly question but I'm hopeless in the kitchen and only just starting to learn how to cook :p

The other day I made chilli con carne and froze the left overs, now I'd like to have the rest of it for dinner tonight. Can I reheat it from frozen? Or would it have to defrost first?

    Thanks for any help :)

You can reheat from frozen. :)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I made a chicken and ham pie with read made pastry (:o)from the freezer then refroze it without cooking. Oops. Is this a major no no or is it more meat/fish that the cook between refreezing applies to?

On that note, I have just read this http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/content/recipes/features/freezing/1/ and it says never to refreeze anything, even if it's been cooked in between?! Is this a new thing or are they just being megaovercautious (new word)?
  • Quick question..... Can I batch cook curry, freeze it in foil containers, then cook from frozen,as per Mr T's curry???

  • I bought a tub of milk powder from Aldi the other day, what I forgot to check was the shelf life once opened - it turns out to be 6 weeks  .

There's no chance of me using it all in that time, can I freeze it?

    Thanks for your help.
