Doughnuts freeze well - the sugar coating is a bit melted after defrosting but that is the only difference from fresh.
If you want to test the texture Lidl do frozen cream filled doughnuts.
I save space in my freezer by bottling stewed apple or apple puree in pop top jars (or kilner jars if I can find some new metal lids). It keeps really well - just had the last jar from last year!
  • I have a lovely recipe for a apple crumble cake (with lots of cinnamon) it's lovely with custard!!

PM me if you are interested in the recipe!

Thanks everyone, I'll try to refrain from eatting it all, and pop a bit in the freezer, although am pregnant so I reckon the calcium would do the baby good!
    Have a good evening,

That's okay... My MIL has a cooking apple tree...

I get bombarded with requests to bake this all the time!!! I am going to try freezing one with this years batch of apples... if a week later it defrosts well I will be baking LOADS for Christmas nice and early, instead of the last minutes rush!!!!

Everyone wants one for Christmas... I think it's the Cinnamon!

    And the Apples are FREE!!

I've made pineapple icecream (which is lovely) for christmas - sure you could do the same and make it apple icecream - serve it with a hot butterscotch sauce maybe? YUM
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • Yes, Clotted cream freezes very well but as far as I know only if it has been unopened. If it's sealed then bung it straight in the freezer. If it has been opened and not stirred then it should still be ok but once you've stirred it, it won't work. Enjoy!
  • What a fab thread nestled into the main quick questions thread.. V clever! :T

I was just wondering if the following are ok to freeze:

HM cereal bars (the recipe contains condensed milk, thats why i'm asking abotu this. recipe doesn't say either way about freezing.

Quinoa - when made up as a cous-cous substitute.

Cooked potatoes (to make up into potato salad at a later date)

This idea I have for a burger... bear with me... I had the idea while eating the insides of a cornish pastry... so cooked meat, herbs, veg (just peas and onion I think) with bits of potato throughout it. Do you think that would freeze ok and then be ok eaten cold in a packed lunch?

Can you tell who is trying to get organised for a very hectic academic year ;)

edited to add: ooh ooh, rice dream milk substitute. its a bit of a far out there question, but hey, might as well ask! :D

  • Hi,im Marina, very new to posting but been reading the threads for a while now, trying to get the courage up to post :-(
we are trying to reduce costs for xmas, and one way we wanted to do this is by making our own gifts etc and christmes cakes for all the relatives.I was lucky enough to get lots of dirt cheap marzipan and ready to roll icing from the superb Approved Food site so all i need to do is make the cakes. What im after is an economical recipe for small approx 5inch diameter fruit cakes. The one i have has so many expensive ingredients it will blow my meagre budget totaly lol. Many thanks in anticipation :-)

Quinoa - when made up as a cous-cous substitute. Never had Quinoa but I kept cooked cous-cous in the fridge for a good week now

Cooked potatoes (to make up into potato salad at a later date)
Not sure on this, I'd try a little bit so as not to waste alot adn see how that is.

Do you think that would freeze ok and then be ok eaten cold in a packed lunch? It sounds lovely, but I think I'd like it hot. I'm sure it would freeze fine though.

I've had rice milk but never cooked with it, I'd say if it says you can cook with it, then whatever its in you can freeze.

This line is added due to my message being too short, its because I havn't added anything after your message :D
