It doesn't need to because reg 1 sets out the conditions of entitlement, one of which is 'he ... is in Great Britain'

    Who mentioned ESA?

sorry i thought we were talking about hols abroad.
  • I am now experiencing problems of not receiving my jobseekers allowance.

I was due to receive my allowance today (friday 6/1/12) but after normally receiving the money into account by 12:30am at the latest since I started claiming in October, I have yet to receive it by 1:30am - I use online banking to check.

I do understand that it can happen anytime overnight, but this is unusual to me. The other thing that has made me look it up and ask is that I currently am away from my usual signing on town.

I put a holiday request to spend new years with my mum (I haven't been able to for 10 years) in Scotland. I live near London. This was accepted and was told that my next appointment before I walked out of the JC+ would be 17th.

I have been looking for work up here too, as I may even move here to be closer to my mum. After not hearing from any of the companies I applied for (all shops) I was about to go home when I was offered an interview - unfortunately too late in the day to call the JC+. I called them the next morning to explain to them that I wouldn't be back on the day I had said as I was awaiting an interview, but she didn't believe me. I even have proof of a letter now as the interview was yesterday (Thursday, I was due to go back on Wednesday). In this time I have also got two more interviews arranged, one for Thursday next week, and one for Monday. I even have confirmations of interviews for these as these two came through the post at my mums. The Thursday one was re arranged as it clashed with the Monday one. I again tried to ring the JC+ but after 4 1/2 minutes of constant ringtone, I gave up. I tried again an hour later to again constant ringing.

I told them that as I was staying at a family home, I would still look online, which I did. I got in contact with one prospective employer too. I am awaiting an interview slot. But decided up here that I may stay. Should I have informed them that I started to look for work here too?

Is me not going back on the day I said meant that I've not received my allowance? Even though the reasons I've stayed are because I have/had interviews..

Thanks for reading a rather long post (sorry).
  • I am a single parent and my kids have the opportunity to spend the summer hols in china visiting their dad. As they are too young to fly unaccompanied I would need to go aswell. They havn't had any access for two years+ and would love to go but I am not sure if I am allowed. Is this access or a holiday and are the rules the same.
  • Its rubbish that they "will re arrange an appointment for a holiday." Of course they won't. You basically have to have your head hanging off for them to even consider allowing you not signing on. And then ofc, you would need a doctors letter.

OR. You could just go the week he doesn't need to sign on..

Fingers crossed you'll have a job by then and won't need to worry about it. If you are still on JSA, can't you sign off and rapid reclaim when you get back? It's not worth the kids missing the trip for the sake of £67, surely?!

  • When I went on my honeymoon just over 3 years ago I was signing on at the time and I had to sign the day before I went and the day after I came back. But they didn't pay me any money for the 10 days I was away for. However, while I was away they phoned me on my mobile and said they might have an interview for me to go to whilst I was away and I would be expected to come home for it otherwise I will be sanctioned. I said I would but they didn't ring back about it thankfully. I think they just did it to see how committed you are to finding a job. Still tarred the whole honeymoon though, thanks DWP!

Why didn't you just sign off while you were away, if you weren't paid anyway? Then they wouldn't have been in touch at all.

Because they didn't tell me about that at the time and I wasn't on this board then. They also didn't tell me I wouldn't get any money for that time until afterwards.
  • If I am going abroad because of my 6 year old child to fix his tooths, he will have to go to sleep during the operation, they refuse to do here in this country, said it's ok and they will fell off by themself, but I know it is not ok and I need to go back to my country to fix his tooths, do i still be paid jobseekers allowance, i read that if it is because of your childs health you can take up to 8 weeks, what papers I need to bring them, or do i need to show them my kid to see the problem!!
